Well... I've decided to explore ubuntu

Trying the "live CD" on my Gateway notebook computer first.
Boot up the CD and ubuntu starts up without any problems.

Question???

How do I get the ubuntu connect to my microsoft wireless G router?

I found a network panel in ubuntu... trying to remember this without writing what I saw when running ubuntu... something about udcp??? I entered the wireless router's WEP key and then tried opening a firefox window. I didn't get to any website that I entered in the the firefox's address bar (i.e. www.thecomputermechanics.com).

OK... so what steps am I missing????

Thanks to all in advance for your help.

The Ubuntu forum is rated as one of the best linux forums ever.

Also there is a lot of info in documentation that users overlook.

https://help.ubuntu.com/

between the two most problems are easily solved.

First step. While in Ubuntu launch a konsole window and type lspci to see devices on the laptop and see if the Wireless card is detected. On my Acer laptop this is the section of the lspci output that identifies my wireless card.

If your card isnt recognized you may have to resort to loading the ndiswrapper and have it load the win driver
