Got an email that 50 preorders will be done today for the premium xbox, haven't seen any discussions on RedFlagDeals or anything. At 7:30am not sure if they're sold out or haven't started it yet but I can't figure out how to do it...

Here's the link (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10066139&logon=L&langid=EN)

Edit: site now shows "sold out". But will check because surprised that this early in the morning and no discussions on any other boards that they went this quickly!

You can still preorder but you might have to wait until the second sshipment or so before you can get your 360 at this point.

I think I'll play the waiting game with the 360, it seems that some developers aren't to pleased about the release of two different version of the 360, with the hard drive being an issue of concern. I've also heard that some developers aren't too pleased about there not being an HD-DVD or Blue-Ray drive in the 360, as they don't think that 8gb of capacity will be enough for some of the next gen games. I'm not sure if these are issues are as big as some developers are making it seem. I'm still not sold on any of the next gen systems, I need to see the games in action to see if it worth it.

That being said, Futureshop's preorder deal seems like an alright deal as it claims to include a memory card and a wifi adapter, which aren't included in the Premium pack. Hopefully it isn't a typo, but any one preordering make a note of it.

Isn't the 499.99 CAD Price tag the same as the original xbox which only had:
-System (hard drive oviously)
-Controller
-Hookups

And NOTHING else.

But now for the same price (i think) you get:
-System
-Hard Drive
-Wireless Cont
-Recharge batt
-Charger
-Remote (limited)
-Headset
-Etc...

I think this is a good price... Compared to the original Xbox

I'm assuming he ment the capacity of the disc, not the capacity of the Hard-Drive

and you get a LIVE silver membership, which i think lets you download and view certain things but not play. Thats fine though because my live membership will just be transfered over for the 360.

Im not sure how much the xbox was at launch but when my friend bought me mine it was 300 and that was way after launch.

I was talking about the use of standard DVD over higher capacity discs. Not the HD, which isn't a standard feature so developers are now trying to figure out how much of a role the HD should play in their games. I think MS is creating a bit of a mess for themselves and developers with the two different versions of the system (mainly not including the HD as a standard feature) along with the various X-Box Live versions that are going to be available.

Well later versions of the 360 may come with an HD-DVD drive, which I just can't see how MS can suddenly switch to HD-DVD without pissing off people who own 360's with regualr DVD drives. Even if MS one day decides to put HD-DVDs into 360's, it will only be for movies and not games, so that doesn't help developers much.

I think this might be the one place where Sony will be able to overtake MS, showcasing the PS3 as a real HiDef gaming solution with its support for Blue-Ray and all the HiDef output options.

I mean it's still to early, especially with the PS3 being a half a year away from launch (if it doesn't get delayed). I'm curious to see how people react to the 360, and if people will go for the Premium pack or go for saving the cash and getting the core pack. Or maybe people will be spending all their money on gas and have no meny left for games!

the hard drive issue is a mess up because now programers might not necesarily have that in mind when making a game. Then again it may not be an issue depending on the typical size of a memory card. As we know the size of the hard drive in current xbox systems is huge and barely used by most people.

Im sure that a smaller memory card would be sufficient to run and store any of a games downloads and features.

The only think would be that some people wouldnt be able to use custom soundtracks.

the various live memberships is actually a good idea. Some poeople might not play much online but still want the downloadable content so forcing them to pay 100 bucks just to get online to download some content is rediculous. Giving free membership with only certain priveledges is a good idea for those that dont have time or care to play online but want the extra content.

I still think MS is trying to stretch their appeal too much, trying to capture the casual gamer (velocity girl!) rather then going for the hardcore gamers first and then eventually bringing in new consumers. MS, IMO, is trying to do to many things with the 360, not in terms of features but in terms of trying to capture different markets, and I have a feeling will re-think and shift its focus after a few months (after Christmas, pre-PS3) back to gaming, and then maybe to tying in the 360 to their Media Center business.

lol had to bring up the gas issue eh?

well , the two packages was a bad idea, but i guess if they can make more sales by having one of them 100 bucks cheaper then meh go for it. all versions shoudl have had a hard drive though.

If MS does go with the HD dvd drives later on then they had better allow for an upgrade because that woudl piss people off. Either that or keep your warranty and trade it in for a newer one.

If sony can use up all of the extra space on their media then ill be more than impressed. And for more than just game demos, extra video and other gimmicks but use it all for the game then i might have to go with sony.

programming and using all that space though may make games take longer to finish and the wait for a game would take much longer than it takes now.

Well, the hardcore gamers are less in number than the casual gamer so it makes sense that that market is sought after not only by ms but sony as well.

Keep in mind that the 360 also has to appeal to asian gamers ALOT more than it did this gen.

I think that changing the drive in the Xbox 360 at any time during the product's life cycle would be a marketing mess for Microsoft. They'd in effect have 4 tiers of machines between those with hard drives, or not, and those with hd-dvd, or not. Talk about negating one of the key points of a console, which is that a game is a game is a game and should play on the machine no matter what. Having that degree of variability in configurations would be too confusing for consumers, and a kick in the behind for people who bought the console early. "Gee, thanks for paying a premium to be the first to get a 360. Too bad you can't play games designed for hd-dvd."

The HD dvd drive would be used for movies only.

yeah and the only reason they would do that is to have same type f features as the ps3 and would only be a 3rd model if u don't have a dvd player this unit would suit your needs..for me i will only be using it for a gaming system
