ShrinkTo5 has been developed as a cross-platform engine available for free for anyone. To ensure a fast spreading to other platforms ShrinkTo5 is distributed as open-source. Still in development and it's open.

I personally use ratDVD (http://www.ratdvd.dk/). Compress any DVD (including special features) into a single small file that you can watch directly with their player or burn to DVD later. It's free too.

Hey VERY nice! Never knew about that program. Can you rip to DVD without having to convert from DVD to RAT to DVD?

Never tried that as I don't have two DVD drives. If you really want to keep it in DVD format, then just use DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter. That's what it does and it does it well.

ok, when I make a "backup" of the DVD to burn to a disk. Don't have a media center. I like my Tivo :)
Speaking of media centers. I should try it out I have a 650Mhz machine sitting around doing nothing.

I found this interesting a snip of there news section.
Download.com declined shrinkto5 listing
30.08.2005
On 28.08.2005 we subscribe to download.com. with an silver listing (99 USD per month) to get an alternative download link for our software. The news of the day is: They decline our listing. They wrote we break their subcription rules.
This is an very intersting issue, cause our software do not contain any illegal part. No DeCSS, no Trojan, no Virus, no AddWare and no SpyWare. Also we do not conatin casino or porn.
But why they decline? Special if you take a look into their listing, where they list very much DVDCopy software. Special, much of them use DeCSS. Its amazing!!!
imo
I don't think it would be much good without it.

Not like you can't find the missing DLL to allow you to bypass the DeCSS.
If you read the comments from the digg.com link above you will find the application/dll
