Hi,
I used to hang out on the Soltek mb forum, but recently purchased a ds3 rev. 3.3, so this will be my second home!!. My oc is 3.13ghz (447x7), vcore 1.325, spd. 2.0, temps 42-44 idle, on air. Still some room to oc.
Now, when i run folding my temps DROP to 39-40 according to core temp, is that possible or is there something awry with my sensors or program?
Thanks

I checked other temp. software (TAT, Speedfan) under load and they are all higher than stated temps in CORE TEMPS software. So i figure temps aren't being read correctly or a setting is off in software.

Are there any fans which speed up or kick in when your CPU is under stress? Increased airflow might account for it. If it was an older P4 there might be a different explanation but it doesn't apply here

Never heard of a processor cooling down when doing more work.

Didn't one P4 version have something built in that it would clock down if it was overheating? You could actually take the heat sink off of it and instead of crashing it would just slow down. I could be wrong but I'm sure I remember reading something about it. They were notoriously difficult to overclock.

Lesley is right. Your fans might just be speeding up.

For example. When my computer is idle, my zalman fatal1ty hsf goes into silent mode (lowest RPMS).. as soon as it gets up in load the fan goes up to a speed that you or the computer has set. So temps can totally go down under load, pending the fans speed up

If that's the case it's a pretty efficient set up.

I run motherboard monitor.. so as soon as load hits a certain level, I have it set to go a certain level... ie

20% load, 2000RPMS.. until it reaches a certain temp etc...

Altho, I should talk, that never happens because with a 120mm HSF, silent mode cools for me just fine. I have been doing a bunch of video encoding lately so its been making some noise, not to mention that AMD x2's do not run that hot to begin with

I think this (http://www.vanshardware.com/articles/2001/july/010723_P4_Throttling/010723_P4_Throttling.htm) is what I'm talking about.

Doesn't matter if the fan speed goes up...the temperature is gonna go up regardless. Even in Phase change cooling, the load temps go up...what's a mere air cooling going to do? BTW, two applications show a higher temperature. Read the second post.

the point is for the fan to speed up when there is load, more RPM's mean the fan is spinning more therefore cooling more. What would be the point of fans if the cpu wasn't staying the same temp or going down during load? unless of course we are talking about like 100% load. big difference.

when my computer is under load my fans speed up, cool'n'quiet tech.
