I just did this fresh install last night. Got the latest drivers from nvidia. The cd setup file would not work as it tells me it it cannot detect an xfx product. This is coming from the cd that came with the xfx 8600gt card so I am at a loss here.
The actual error is "the vga detects seems not xfx's product. please go to nvidia.com to get the driver for the other nvidia vga".
Also, my desktop will not fit to screen like it used to.
Is there a setting I am missing somewhere?
Any ideas???

I have tried different resolutions with the same result.
Chaning the refresh rate does nothing.

I am at a loss on how to resolve this so hopefully someone has an idea as to how to fix it.
I know it has to do with the driver as when I uninstall it, the desktop is normal.
As soon as I install the driver, back to being crappy again.

Have you tried installing drivers for your monitor?

Sorry, BV. I should have mentioned I am still using a 27inch screen tv.

Not sure if this will help... but you can try downloading the beta's from NVIDIA's website. I'm using them now, and they're rock solid stable and fast for may anyhow. The other thing is to check in the NVIDIA control panel and under "Video and Television", make sure it's configured appropriately with the setup from the PC to your TV.

I run a 6150 LE onboard and a 8500GT for the second monitor. I use Vista as well and I have similar problems when I installed a Vista update from MS.
I had to go back to an older driver and now whenever I update Vista it has as an option to update the driver which I wont do.
If I want to change my display settings I have to go through Vista to do it and if I use the Nvidia Control Panel, it all gets screwy.
Now if I boot to XP with the same setup, I have to make all changes in the Nvidia CP while if I ise XP it gets screwy there. Go figure?

Forgot to mention, I also get an error message like "couldn't get graphic card info" but all seems to work fine.

compy, under video & television, all that is listed are adjust video color settings & change the signal or HD format.
It does see my tv as the default monitor as it shows the tv icon.
Thaiwoo, I'm still trying to figure out why the supplied setup cd that came with the xfx 8600GT says it's not an xfx 8600GT.....???

Todays updated driver release from nvidia has fixed this issue for me.
