Hi all,

I have had my lan running for a few years and today......i ended up screwing around with something and now i can't get into my router....it's an smc barricade 7004br. My desktop computer now has an IP starting with 169.x.x.x

I'm unable to clear that ip and allow for a renew. I've tried reinstalling the NIC card....and that didn't do anything. Any ideas on how to renew the ip?

Right now, I'm hooked directly without using my router.

I've tried using the SMC router CD setup but that took can't get into the router.

I'm really frustrated and confused....can someone please help me.

thanks in advance.

sometimes after removing spyware or installing service pack 2 the winsock settings get ****** up. try this
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml
if it doesn't work try setting a static ip address manually for your computer or re-installing your network card drivers

i've had the same issue on two machines right after installing service pack 2 where I couldn't get a valid ip and windows would give itself a loopback address, after using winsockfix it worked perfectly

Hi,

I tried that but I still can't seem to fix the problem...the 169.x.x.x IP just won't go. (DESKTOP PC)---Win 98
Tried:

removing NIC card(physically and from network neighborhood)
reinstalling drivers
loading the smc cd and running the setup from there
also I can't seem to get into my CD ROM drive from My computer...says can't locate autorun.exe

I can't get into my SMC router either....it's as if I'm locked out or something.

Someone please help asap.

thanks
