I really wish I could help but I don't use that program.
I use a paint program (jask painshop pro) maybe it is similar.
fist select the background open it now open the picture you
want with you in it. now use the free hand selection tool
to carefully select around the picture. then go to edit and
select copy this puts the picture into the clip board. now
select the back ground picture go to edit and paste as a new
layer you will now be able to move yourself around the background
and place were you want it. you can now select layer 1 or layer
background. you can now adjust the color brightness etc. on the layer
and the layer 1 to match them. you can even change the size of
yourself (layer 1) to suit the background when done flatten/merge
the images together and save the file.
one thing I have found nomatter what program you are using practice
will help you understand how the program works.
I know this is not exactly the procedure for your program but may give you
some ideas.

Go to retouchpro.com, register (free) and go to menu>forums>restoration and manipulation and post your query...I'm sure you will get pointed in the right direction...what you want to do is complex but can be done, but requires advice and practice to make it look good...

You should probably be using the Extract tool to "cut yourself out" then pasting the result into a pic with your parents as new layer. Some scaling will probably be required and it takes patience and practice to get just right.
The biggest thing to look out for when compositing differnet elments together is to make sure that you spend time making sure that your colours, and more importantly your black levels match. Alos take the time to adjust for lighting. There is no one way to go about doing this and the best way for you probably depends on you skill level with Photoshop.
