when i try to boot with a linux cd i get this message:
Can't read CTR while initializing i8042. My keyboard will not work
hp pavillion 6237 month old amd athlon64

what does this message mean? is there an easy fix?

Some laptops have hardware issues. It is my understanding that you may have to be sure to run a 64bit live CD variant. You didn't specify which distro and version of same that you tried.

called hp. updated bios. everything works fine now
