Steps to download a MP3 program to an Apple Ipod

Can someone please share the steps for downloading an MP3 to an Apple Ipod and a Apple Shuttle.

I have Windows XP and Nero Express if that helps.

I take it they did'nt come with any software?
I'm not sure if Windows Media Player 11 can sync with Apple products,
but iTunes will. It's free.

iTunes is what I use, there is also a plugin for Winamp which allows you to transfer songs onto your iPod but imo I find iTunes easier to use
