Vanquisher I don't think is even a good enough word for the size of that thing.

Aren't you scared it will rip off do to weight distribution?

Btw. why did you decide to goto amd vs intel?

freebie cpu... so I figured with the price of ddr2 I can build a cheap system now then use the memory in my next system. Plus the mobo was only $79.... I'm saving up for a killer video card of some sort. The CPU's don't make as much difference now as do the video cards for gaming. ... the HSF, cheap too... and mostly aluminum.

I have an Intel T7200 in a desktop setup and it is very quick. If money wasn't tight I would have built a new rig around the c2d.

I'm finding 2gb of memory makes the system very responsive.

Yeah, I wish my motherboard supported DDR2. cuz well, its dirt cheap right now :(

Nice rig you got there tho. HDMI is a nice feature

I am thinking of getting a 8800GTS and seeing what nVidia is going to bring out next year. Supposedly the 9 series is going to be released in February.

The new GTS looks nice, but if your going to get a card now, I'd just get an 8800GT. There are so many rumors flying around about a 9 series, but you could be waiting until next summer, who knows right?

I posted this in another thread, looks like february is the target release date, but we probably won't see anything til summer, like NG said.

They're saying a "high end" release in February and a "mid range" release in June.

I might as well ask here. Has anyone heard anything about the 9 series being a single slot card? I think I read somewhere that nVidia was going to focus on keeping heat down on the 9 series and they might all be single slot cards.

edit - Hmmm the new 8800 GTS 512MB looks really impressive.

For the D9E's highly unlikely for single slot although it's pure speculation. The mid range cards maybe, as they will be using 55nm tech. The D9E's will still be using 65nm gpu's running at higher clocks.

Great news about the next gen Nvidia cards then... the 8800 should drop in price quickly. :)

Actually what should drop in price is the 8800GTX, Ultra and GTS, but not the GT, its the new kid on the block and will drive down the prices of the older faster/slower cards. Of course all the 8000 series cards should drop in price when the 9000 series is introduced, but the market is a funny thing and anything can happen.

I doubt the GTS will drop as they're releasing an updated version on December 11. Some sneak previews of it have the GTS running faster than the Ultra.

LOL... so many Geforce cards coming out. I'm not sure NVIDIA knows what to do with their time anymore. ATI hasn't been much of a threat as lately, as they're thinkin more mainstream cards as opposed to high end cards (although the new 3850 midrange card by amd/ati pales in comparison to NVIDIA's midrange 8800GT - but the price for the 8800GT is higher). So now NVIDIA's just biding their time, releasing tweaked 8 series cards to soak up the market before releasing the 9 series. Big problem with the 9 series is, alot of folk out there don't see the need to take out a second mortgage to buy a card that really only adds DX10.1 functionality to the mix (devs are having a hard enuff time being convinced to code for DX10 right now, as the API isn't really turning out what MS touted it as). I hope AMD/ATI has something up their sleeve in the high end market. Competition brings out the best in both companies.
