A Sci Fi site claimed these to be the 15 best Sci Fi books ever written, and I was wondering if you agree, or
do you have your own list.....I find a few of my favourites missing.

8. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams
9. Dune, Frank Herbert
10. Neuromancer, William Gibson
11. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, Philip K Dick

I've seen list where they put Battlefield earth on before....although the movie was a flop...the book is worth a read for sci-fi lovers....I would also move the dune series up the list imo......

You certainly are well read linuxguru.
Have not read 3 either nor 10 or 11.
The one I would put in there is
A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller, Jr., and all of Heinleins books.

I am surprized that a Jules Verne book is not on the list since he is considered the pioneer of science fiction literature.
Also, I believe Mary Shelley's Frankenstein should be on the list.
I would take Slaughterhouse-Five off the list, not because it is not a great book but I consider it more social satire then Sci-fi.
And I would take 2001 - A Space Odyssey off the list because I think its notoriety owes more to the Stanley Kubrick film rather then Arthur C Clarke's writing skills or vision.
Enders game was one of my favs.. I am now reading the Speaker for the Dead

Just started a good one that I picked up on Manybooks.net. The creature from beyond. Btw does any one remember a sci fi story where a guy is sent down to an inhabited backwards planet to find guy hiding on it. I don't remember much about it except that he has a teenage pilot who stays orbiting around the planet and talks to him through a transmitter implanted in his head. In order to communicate with his ship, he just has to 'talk to himself'. He also has a tooth with poison in it to kill himself if he is captured, and his mistress figures out he is from somewhere else, because he is circumcised. Does this ring a bell for anyone?:tkl:
