Sometimes when I click on a file to play, all I hear is the sound no video.
But Media player is running the taskmanager services, so I have to cancel it from there, then click on the file again, then I will see video..
This happens quite often..

Happens to me sometimes, jamie - no idea why............
A reboot fixes it, or for a more permanent solution - vlc player..........
I'd be interested if anyone has any insight, also. I don't think it's a codec - when you reboot, it plays perfectly fine, and there seems to be no pattern to when it happens.

Thanks for your replies..
I don't have to reboot at all, I just click on the file again and it works 2nd time..

Try uninstalling all your codec(s)/codec packs, and reboot. Then reinstall them one by one.
As mentioned earlier, you could use VLC player, as it's a great all-in-one player.
If you want to simply stick with windows media player, I would remove all your codecs, and then install FFDshow (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/ffdshow.cfm). Ever since I tried this app out, I never went back to codec packs as it will allow WMP to play any video codec out there. Hope this info helps ya out!!!
