I'm using Vista Home Premium on a fairly new Toshiba Laptop (U200-PT3, Intel T2300, 2GB of RAM) and I've done all the updates. About 2 days ago the time and date were completely out of wack. I keep adjusting it but even as the machine is running the clock will speed up or slow down. I've tried manually updating it from time.windows.com and about 20 other internet time servers (all offical .gov ones) and I just keep getting errors that it couldn't update the time properly.
Any suggestions?

sounds like a problem with the BIOS clock

Yeah that's what I was thinking. But it's a brand new laptop, could the battery be going bad?

do you have it set to gmt-5? I think your puter is set to a different time zone

For a couple of buck's. I'd replace the battery, who knows how long it's been sitting around before being installed. That will rule out that problem, if not you'll have an extra when it does die.

Yeah I'm going to try that. In the mean time I've turned off internet time synchronization. I was only getting errors when I tired to do it and it might explain why the clock was jumping all over the place. If it was getting errors in the updates then it would be adjusting the clock incorrectly.

Hmm well that didn't seem to help. The problem seems to be the clock slowing down or something. I never actually see it happen but I'll be working and all of a sudden I'll look and the clock will be 2 or 3 hours behind. It nevers seems to jump ahead.

You checked the battery and if software settings are not the problem then the CMOS re-charge circuit must be kaput. Return to supplier and get a new system or money back.
