Yea.. I'm gonna wait until Windows 7 comes out. They might have some things right by then. Until that day I'll stick with XP.

Well, the video only served to convince me further that Windows Vista is a bloated resource gobbler that in order to run properly, you need more memory, faster video, more powerful processor and end up with an OS that was spawned in hell. Microsoft are NOT getting the overwhelming response that they expected and hoped for. Almost all of the people that I know that have bought new computers with Vista pre-installed, are removing it and going back to XP. If they start pulling the plug on XP too quickly, they are going to find that they will have a lot of angry consumers on their hands.
Bringing out Vista was unnecessary. It does nothing that XP doesn't, and XP does those things better, and it's more stable. All I've seen with Vista is an annoying rearranging of the toolbars, adding useless gadgetry, that yeah, it's fun to play with but the novelty quickly wears off.
When Windows XP came out, I thought that Microsoft had finally got an OS right after WIndows 95, 98 and ME.
I won't use Vista. When I upgrade to a new computer, I want XP on it and that's the end of it.

I still remember all the different threads on different fourms with people talking about how they're going to stick with Windows 98 SE until the version after XP comes out or how MS can pry 98 SE from their "cold dead hands". People seem to forget that this reaction seems to happen almost everytime a new OS comes out from MS.

I bought VISTA Home Premium 32 bits and I liked it. So I upgrade to the Premium 64 bit in hope to be a little faster as it uses a wider bandwidth, but not much difference. If anything it was hard to get the drivers. But now got them all and I luv it.

I am using it now and think some of the features are a real improvement and with sp1 its stable enough.
But i can't help feeling is that it.
Alot of the window dressing in vista can be used in xp like the sidebar or dreamscape .
For the price it just seems very lacking.

Vista has better indexing and superfetch features that utilize the maximum amount of ram you have in your system so that it's faster.
Of course if you run it on your Celeron with 128megs of quality SDram I would recommend against Vista.
Just to refresh your memory, when XP came out people were reverting back to Windows 98.

Did you notice the gap there? What about Windows ME? Do you hear of anyone going back to ME? Goes to show that Microsoft can release a bad OS or at least one that is worse then the previous generation. Windows 98 was a great OS, fairly stable and does what most people need an OS for. Only reason we don't use it anymore is that is doesn't support todays bigger and faster hardware, and also because Microsoft likes money.
Despite having a solid product, Microsoft released Windows ME that was less stable and less reliable. I know first hand, I don't know have many times I've reinstalled ME onto my parents computer just to get it to stop crashing. So far ME is accepted as the worst Windows OS so far.
Then Windows XP came along and I believe it is the best Windows OS so far. Well frankly it was hard to be worse then Windows ME but XP has great hardware support. Installing hardware and drivers is simple and rarely any conflicts or errors and is generally stable.
Now we have Vista. To be truly fair we can't judge Vista until were looking back at it a few years from now. Will we think it is better then XP? Worse then ME? Many people complain about the layout and I agree on some things. Why do they need to keep moving things around, especially when we have an option to revert to classic view which most of us do?
Some may praise the software that comes with Vista as a reason to upgrade or why it's good but software is a poor argument. Software can be written for any OS and even if Microsoft doesn't make it, if it's a good application, then someone else will make it. I can make a video desktop in XP and probably find other programs to do what Vista comes with and if I can do that then it is not an extra feature of Vista.
Only thing left to currently judge Vista on is hardware support and right now it is very poor. I'm not talking about people that buy a new computer because of course everything you buy will be compatible. I'm referring to people that upgrade and have extra accessories. People that have high end video cards (Less's ATI tuner card for example) or scanners and cameras or what ever. I recently set up a new system for a couple and we went with XP and one reason why is that their scanner had no Vista drivers. I just bought a web cam online and found out it has no Vista support either. (I just notice a pattern as it's all video related problems. I wonder if it has anything to do with the DRM built into the OS?)
Maybe later we will look back and say Vista was a solid OS but right now Vista is failing to preform the basic function of an OS which is to run the hardware. When it does run, it runs slower and frankly there is very little reason to upgrade your system to Vista. If your getting a new system there is more reasons to choose Vista over XP but you can still go either way.
I don't know where I'm going with all this anymore because it is late so I'm going to stop now.

Worst os probably not.
Biggest mistake by ms most likely.
Not because its hugely bad and totally without redeeming features since vista has a good many features that are good like shadow copy.
But rather for failing to deliver on all the insane hype and putting drm in after industry has started to shift away from it.
Drm was a slap in the face for the buyer and the wow turned out to be thats all it? and you toss in some insane number of versions with inflated prices.
By far the biggest problem for vista was it doesn't really do anything big that can't be done on xp and had nothing that would compel the everyday user or business to change.
As cnet said its not a really bad os but its just a ho hum os.
Ms seems to not to want to help that image either when the consider fixing vista ultimate extras like dreamscape and bitlocker to be extras themselves.
Now languages are considered a bonus by ms, i seem to recall xp doing that for free.
Ms may not have forgotten about vista but it sure way back on the priority list now.

Where did you get SP1?
On February 4, 2008, Microsoft announced that Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista had hit the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) milestone, but it would not be available for public consumption until sometime in March due to certain driver issues. Microsoft has actually already given some users SP1, which is no different than RC Refresh 2, but the Release to Web (RTW) is still in the works. Assuming Microsoft fixes the prerequisite update issue in time, the exact date for the SP1 Release to Web is reportedly March 18, 2008.

Hmmm. My memory is just fine thanks. I don't recall anyone that *I* knew going back to Windows 98, after installing XP. But by the time those people started using XP, it was obvious that it was vastly superior to Win98. It's not happening that way with Vista. It's different - but it's not better.
I recall putting XP on the system I was running with the same hardware that I was using with Win98. With Win 98, I was getting "Illegal Operation" errors and BSOD at least a dozen times a night. When I installed XP, all those problems....just went *away*. Now THAT impressed me. I'm not saying I never had ANY problems ever again - but no more of the ones that I was experiencing with Win98.

Honestly vista not that bad and actually a decent of with good points when you deal with some of its major short comings and hack the hell out of the parts that just don't work.
Problem is for the average joe this is not a easy task and thats the real issue.
Turning of functions and services that have no use and using drives meant for xp to get older hardware running can be a pain.
Sorry until I'm absolutely forced to I ain't gonna leave my xp pro media center. Hehhh I've tried vista and right now its just the pits. As for the sidebar and all its gadgets -- hehehhh hasn't anyone heard of widgets ??? They have been out for ages and can do anything that these new vista gadgets do. Lets face it Deb is right on this one and Vista is just like ME [probably worse].
