My Dell Inspiron 5000 notebook uses a Linksys Ethernet Card to hook to the office LAN (Windows 2000 names it LAN). It uses a Netgear Wireless card to connect to my router at home (W2K names it LAN5). On a boot up at home it seems to connect quickly but on resume at home it takes a minute to resume then a further 45 secs to find the wireless signal. How can I speed up the wireless hook up.

You could try setting up 2 different hardware profiles (call them office and home). For the office profile, disable the wireless card and for the home profile disable the ethernet card. That way it's not spending time trying to find the non existent connection. Then, when you boot up, you should have a choice of which hardware profile to load.

I have the same issue with my laptop after it wakes up. Seems to be much slower in finding the wireless network. I really don't think you can do anything, it's an issue with XP./

Thanks Sybil and Digiital. You got me thinking and I checked Windows Help. There are two titles that may be helpful. Hardware Profiles Overview details what Sybil has suggested. There is also a title, Best Practices, which could help. I will post if I get it resolved.

I disabled the office LAN card for now. I will set up a new Hardware Profile for it next time I need it. That has speeded up the re-connection to the HomeWireless network. There is also a suggestion to move the TCP/IP up in the list of protocols which I may try. Thanks.
