Speaking at Microsoft's TechEd conference in Amsterdam on Tuesday, Microsoft's chief security advisor, Detlef Eckert, said that Microsoft will charge for the anti-virus protection from its Sybari acquisition. It also reported that only one in three US users of Windows XP has so far installed Service Pack 2, which gives greatly enhanced protection from Internet threats. It said that part of its anti-spyware offering will remain free, but the pricing policy for the other part of the anti-spyware package is still unclear.
