I have one short hair and one long hair cat.
The long hair has no problem getting rid of hair balls but i suspect my short haired one does.
Ever now and then he tosses his lunch shortly after eating it.
Its not that often and both are otherwise very healthy.
What would be the best and hopefully simplest way of dealing with hairballs so they can avoid any discomfort?

I also have two cats, one short hair and long hair.
I have talked to a vetanary about this problem.
Basically cats throwing up their hairballs is a natural process. There are special diets that will help the hairballs go through the "other way"... hehe so they don't get stuck as much and less throwing up. But my cats don't like those diets...
Other than that, grooming and perhaps cutting their hair professionaly should help reduce hairballs as well.

can help
Diet would be the simplest, a good hairball food wouldnt hurt anyone, if you suspect someone is retaining the hairballs.
I have four extremely long haired persians, they give me the odd hairball (usually in or around shed), but that's reduced due to constant grooming. If they'll let you it's a great way to do that and help their coat and skin conditions in the process.
Petromalt, or similar can work, but I would only use that if there are problems eliminating them on their own or once in a while as maintenance.
The grooming is all I do regularly and I have no problems otherwise.

My cats love a good stiff brushing at it removes loose hair. Helps!
