just purchased the mc5102c and went to install cd on my computer and it aborted the install as it said it wasn't compatible. On cd it says for use with windows xp sp1 or higher, I take this to mean I can go ahead and use it??

I take it this is a used laptop since it didn't come with vista installed.

This being the case and the fact that i can find nothing on those numbers its not likely to run vista well or at all.

it did come with vista already installed and I've had it for a few months

Ahhh i see your problem.

What you have is a upgrade cd of vista and not a full install cd. (upgrade disk require a older os to be already installed)

I don't understand, I have a new computer from best buy that came with vista already installed. I am now trying to install the cd for my new mp3 player. Patience with me I'm a total newbie

Hmmmm

Next time you need to be alot more clear.

You didn't mention that it was a mp3 player so i figured you were trying to install vista.

That cd seems to have only vista xp drivers and your likely not going to need it.

It should be a simple case of just plugging it in and vista should see and install it.

Whats the name of it or who made it?

So sorry for the confusion......
It is an RCA mp3 player. Vista did recognize it, I thought you still had to install the cd it came with even if vista did recognize, is that correct?

Nope cd really not needed.

Mp3 players are basically just little hard drives and all you need do is drag and drop sp3 over to it.

(it well show up in my computer)

And no problem it happens to the best of us.
