Well guys,

Summer is just around the corner and I want to start off this topic by discussing about the first concert that you went in your life. As many big-ticket acts are going to by amp'd up for another concert season, I'll discuss you on the concerts that I went in my life. This posting does not include "concert-level performances" that were aired on television (i.e. a performance on MuchOnDemand, an Intimate&Interactive peformance or a Live @ Much performance, all aired on MuchMusic or an MTV Live performance that was aired on MTV Canada) or acoustic ones, but I will include them anyways. I'm going to mention some big-ticket concerts in this thread.

My first concert that I went to is to see Christina Aguilera down at the Air Canada Centre back in July 2000. At that time, I was getting ready to go into Grade 9. Opening acts for her include soulDecision, McMaster & James, mytown (an Irish pop band) and The Moffatts (very popular among kids back then).

Two years later in 2002 and in the early months of 2003, I went to see a band called Wave (also very popular back then) in concert. I saw them for almost six times in my life....:P

Also back in 2003, during the aftermath of the SARS crisis, me and my older sister attended the SARS benefit concert (I'm not talking about the Rolling Stones one that was held at Downsview Park that was held in July, but the one that was held) in June. Both concerts were held at the Skydome (now known as the Rogers Centre) and the Air Canada Centre. A video link was provided between the two. If I remembered correctly: Avril Lavigne, Sum 41, Swollen Members, The Barenaked Ladies performed at the Skydome and at the Air Canada Centre: Sarah McLachlan, Jann Arden & Diana Krall performed for a sold out audience! I have a t-shirt that describes about the concert and the artists that had performed that day on June 21st, 2003. They were sold by Roots and proceeds of these t-shirts were contributed to SARS research.

Three years later in 2006, I went to see Fall Out Boy down at the Ricoh Coliseum. They were opening for The All-American Rejects, From First to Last and October Fall (all for the Black Clouds and Underdogs tour back then). It was an awesome concert, but that day turned out to be something exciting: Fall Out Boy performed for a special performance during the day (all for free!) down at Yonge-Dundas Square. The crowds were massive!!! lol

During the rest of 2006, I went to see Hedley down at CampusFest 2006 at Durham College/UOIT. They were very good and the crowd was pleased about it! At that time, I was entering my 1st year in college and that's how frosh week festivities do for people trying to adjust to the life in college/university.

During the middle of 2007, I went to see Fall Out Boy for the 2nd time - but this time it was held at the Molson Amphitheatre. +44 (one of my favourite bands and created by Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker, known for their roles in a now-defunct band called Blink-182), Cobra Starship, The Academy Is....and DJ Paul Wall performed for the awesome crowd (these artists were part of the Honda Civic Tour last year)!!

Also in 2007, I went to see Faber Drive three times (two of them were held at the Dungeon, a very popular concert place in Oshawa, but sadly closing down this month & Downsview Park for Canada Day celebrations) and Marianas Trench two times! These bands are my most favourite and I listened to their music non-stop. Many teenagers seem to like these bands, you know....

This year, I went to see Angels & Airwaves down @ the Kool Haus (The Guvernment) in Toronto. One of my fellow friends went to see them and they really get to know me a lot because they really like Angels & Airwaves (a band created by Tom Delonge, also in Blink-182, which is now broken up...) too!

Anyways, I have enough chit chat with all of my concert stories and sorry if I got you guys bored.....now don't blame me on this, I just want to share you a story, that's all. The concerts that I plan to attend this year include the Vans Warped Tour, which is now held at Downsview Park in Toronto (the same place where the Rolling Stones performed for almost half-a-million!) on July 19th, 2008 and on August 29th, 2008, I'm going to see Simple Plan down at the Molson Amphitheatre. They will be opening for Faber Drive and The All-American Rejects. Since this date straddles during the CNE period (August 15th-September 1st), I have to take in account whether to bypass the CNE grounds or simply pay just to get through. Anyways, I leave you with the summary of concerts that I went:

My summary of concerts:

July 7th, 2000: Christina Aguilera (with opening acts soulDecision, mytown, The Moffatts, McMaster & James) at the Air Canada Centre.
November 17th, 2001: Wave (acoustic performance) @ American Eagle Oufitters clothing store at the Eaton Centre, Toronto.
December 15th, 2001: Wave (acoustic performance) @ The Levi's Store at Yorkdale Shopping Centre.
March 23rd, 2002: Wave (concert) in Brampton - I couldn't remember the concert venue, but it's on Main and Queen Streets in Downtown Brampton...
June 14th, 2002: Wave (concert) @ the Mississauga Waterfront Festival
July 1st, 2002: Wave (concert) @ Ontario Place
February 9th, 2003: Wave (concert) @ Nathan Philips Square for the Toronto Winterfest festivities
June 21st, 2003: Concert for Toronto @ The Skydome & Air Canada Centre. Attended the Skydome one.
May 13th, 2006: Fall Out Boy/The All-American Rejects @ the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto. Bands were part of the Black Clouds and Underdogs Tour.
September 9th, 2006: Hedley/Mobile/Kardinall Offishall/Rides Again @ CampusFest 2006 at Durham College/UOIT.
May 26th, 2007: Fall Out Boy/+44/Cobra Starship/The Academy Is.../DJ Paul Wall @ the Molson Amphitheatre (toured for the Honda Civic Tour back then)
June 8th, 2007: Marianas Trench @ the Dungeon in Oshawa (went to chat with them, but not actually see them perform)
June 15th, 2007: Faber Drive @ the Dungeon (went to chat up with them, but not actually see them perform)
July 1st, 2007: Faber Drive @ Downsview Park (for the Canada Day festivities)
September 15th, 2007: Faber Drive @ the Dungeon
September 29th, 2007: Marianas Trench @ the Dungeon
February 22nd, 2008: Angels & Airwaves @ Kool Haus in Toronto
April 17th, 2008: Faber Drive @ the Dungeon (my most recent)

My question is, what is your first concert and how many concerts that you went in your lifetime? What did you learn about the concert that you went to?

I was never a big one for going to concerts but I was invited to go with some buddies to see the Cult at the still relatively new Skydome (as it was called then) back in 1989, this was my first concert. The following year I saw David Bowie at the Skydome as well. A year after that I met my future wife who was a huge Blue Rode fan, so we saw them a bunch of times at Massey Hall, Ontario Place and the Molson Amphitheater. I also saw the Who when they went on tour some years ago.

First real concert was the Jimi Hendrix Experience, at the Colliseum, about 41 years ago, followed a while later by The Doors, also at the collisuem. Not long afterward both the Jims were dead. Spent most of the weekend at Strawberry Fields held a Mosport, Canada's version of Woodstock. Lots of big names, got in for free; the promoters lost their shirts.
In the last 8 or so years I have seen a number of acts at Casino Rama (for free), including the Doobie brothers (3 times), Steppenwolf, Styx, The Blues Brothers, The Moody Blues, Three Dog Night (twice), The Allman Brothers Band, Bachman and Cummings, Joe Walsh, ZZTop, Little River Band, Bruce Willis, Smothers Brothers (twice), and Bernadette Peters.
Last year I also attended the Labour Day concert at Desoronto, featuring Mike Mckenna and Slidewinder, Low Level Flight, Honeymoon Suite, and Glass Tiger led by the Scarborough Scotsman, Alan Fru. The promoters lost $250,000 on this one. Shame, really as it was a very cheap day ($30 for one day, $50 for 2) with excellent talent. I have also seen Low Level Flight many times in the last year and a half, including the video release party for Say, held at the Gibson Showroom, which is a really cool place to see a band, and all the Gibson products. Gibson really supports the local talent, and the guitars in the showroom have been made available to bands to use in videos and on tour.

Kiss, Blue Oyster Cult at Varsity Stadium - 1976, since then I have been to so many concerts I would have hard time recalling them all. Was not a Kiss fan but they did have a great show, went to see Blue Oyster Cult. Used to be if any band came anywhere between Montreal to Buffalo we went. Now if it is from Chicago to Montreal if it is someone I want to see. Even went to California to see the US festival, New York to see the Ramones at CBGB's, and I was a roadie when I was young so my list of who I haven't seen is shorter than the ones I have. We would go see bands we didn't really care for just to go to a concert and we had sooo much fun. Now it has to usually be an outdoor venue, have tickets for Virgin Fest and Edgefest already. Will add more concerts as the summer goes on.

First concert was Def Leppard. Copps in Hamilton.. circa 1986. Went with a buddy and his dad. It rocked, never forget it. Been to many since, but nothing recently. Biggest disappointment was Alice Cooper. I was a huge fan, I mean huge back in the day. Went to his new years concert back in I would hazard a guess at 1996???, at Skydome. Was meant to be a 3 hour show.. He was on stage for 50 mins. Then the show ended. Everybody was pissed. Found out later he was so drunk and high he passed out in the back changing outfits. :)

Led Zeppelin at the Montreal Forum in 1970. They had released their second album and "Whole Lotta Love" was number 1 on the charts at the time.

I've been to quite a few concerts. My first I think was when I was young at Canada's Wonderland.

I've seen the Hip a few times, here in Ontario, in BC and in Buffalo. A few other large tickets a few Lollapolalooza's, Edge Fests, etc.

But I really prefer to see Indy shows. From the Indy Music Festival to NXNE, these shows with half the glam and twice the awesome are where it's at for me.

not quite in order and I may be forgetting some?
Oasis (great live)
Tool (great concert, high security)
Beastie Boys (ill communication tour, expected more of a "show" but they were good)
RHCP (flea is great)
Green Day (great presence, but not great live voice)
Moist (frosh week)
BNL (were playing High Schools when I saw them)
Spirit of the West (frosh week)
The Hip (very good live)
Sloan
EdenFest
DMB (Hate DMB now, everyone said how awesome they were live, they sucked, and the encore wait for 30mins, I left, openers they choose sucked too)

and various small acts at smaller venues downtown T.O. (treble charger, edwin, rhymes with orange, zuckerbaby are some I can think of off the top of my head)

Regrets: Not seeing Pink Floyd at the Ex in mid-90s

Never been much of a concert follower and can't remember the dates, but ...

Chicago before they became famous. They played at Camp Borden to a relatively small crowd - very intimate and enjoyable.

Found out after I got married to MaggieMuffet that one of her high school friends played for Chicago.

Beach Boys - a number of times.

LOL ... guess my very first one ... was Gene Autry when my granny took me to see him perform in Ottawa - that was a few years ago ;)

Went to Edgefest in Barrie a couple of times. Could walk to it from here. In one of the houses we lived in you felt like your house was in front of the stage because the sound carried so well LOL. Watch it on TV and listen live at the house.

The Barrie New Year's Eve bash a few times - always had good bands.

Went to The Key To Bala a few times while we lived in Muskoka and can't even remember who we saw - always top level bands though.

Guess I have been to many, just that they blend in with my past existence :d

Leaving the Rock scene, the best ever concert/performance I have ever attended was Andre Rieu (http://www.andrerieu.com/site/) (the ultimate performer) at the ACC in 2006.

AC/DC with Y&T as opener in Zuerich. Was about 14 years old. Didn't know that there were that many people smoking pot.

After that many more in Europe. Here the ones I can remember

Venom with Metallica
Metallica with Hellstar
AC/DC with Mountain
Tina Turner with Richard Marx

Huey Lewis 2x
Bruce Hornsby with T-Pau

In Canada

Bryan Adams, Steve Miller Band and Sass Jordan at Molson Park
Rod Stewart 2x (the wife liked to see him)
Bon Jovi, Nickelback in Montreal

One group I would have loved to see is Queen. It will never be the same without Freddie. Recently bought a HD DVD from an old Concert, Queen Live in Montreal. A must see for every Queen fan.

Yur stirrin' the old grey cells ... adding to small list ...

Lighthouse

Chuck Berry (was in Cadet camp at Camp Farnum in Quebec - south of Montreal near the US border, and we took a small boat across the lake to see Chuck Berry ... Border? We didn't see no stinking border!).

Ronnie Hawkins .... a friend of mine was good friends with the Hawkins, so getting to see Ronnie was easy.

Gordon Lightfoot ... of course, our business was in Orillia and we just lived north of there. Went to see him a few times at the Orillia Opera House.

BTO - they played my theme song, "Taking Care of Business".

Geez, you had to go and ask that huh lol.
Well it got me thinking like everybody else here.

Thinking back, my first major "arena" concert as far as I can remember was Van Halen, just after Van Halen 2 was released, at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. Don't remember who opened for them though.

Prior to that though, my first "concert" was Max Webster & Wireless, at the Aurora Civic centre, or whatever it's called now (if it still exists).

Then an avalanche of shows(memory sputtering & trying to kick in):

Styx with April Wine & Johnny Winter at MLG (Johnny opened the show & the other 2 bands didn't stand a chance)

Queen at MLG twice

A new years eve show at MLG with Goddo & Max Webster & an appearance by Geddy Lee to sing on Battle Scar with Max Webster

Eric Clapton at MLG in his white suit days--a fabulous show though (early 80's?)

Van Halen again at MLG

Don't know if you can count this as a concert or not, maybe a bar band category, but the metal queen herself Lee Aaron at the late great Gasworks.
She was great but so loud I had ringing in my ears for about 1 1/2 weeks after.
I'm sure there were other concerts I saw in Toronto then but can't remember lol

Later in Ottawa,
Aeromith 3 times
ZZ Top with George Thorogood opening (ZZ Top sucked)
Garth Brooks --my favorite concert I've seen so far.
Emerson Lake & Palmer

Kieth Urban, another great show in Owen Sound
And recently here in New Brunswick in Moncton, Brad Paisley, 2nd favorite show lol.

I'm sure there are others but the memory ain't what it used to be.
