when you click the energy saver in system preference, there is an option to set "put display to sleep whe computer is inactive for...". I want to hv something when i press something and it would quickly put my display to sleep.

Anything that can do it?

Not that I know of.

If you simply want to hide your screen's display, you can assign a corner of your screen so you can shove your mouse there and the screensaver will kick in. See the Activation options in the Screensaver preference pane.

If you want to make you whole Mac go to sleep quickly, use the Command-optionEject keys and your mac will immediately go to sleep.

If you have a Microsoft internet keyboard, there is usually a button with a Half moon shape on it, pushing that puts the computer to sleep.

Only if the operating system has that key message plugged into its sleep mode. Have you tried that keyboard on a Mac?

The key command I posted works on standard Apple pro keyboards.

To my knowledge, there is no key command to actually put your display TO SLEEP (as in cut power to it). Only the timed delay for it to go to sleep exists, as you saw in the Energy Saver preference pane. The closest thing to a solution for you is to assign one of your monitor's corners to engage the screensaver when you shove your mouse into that corner.
