I want to grill salmon fillets on the barbeque. I can put them directly on or I can wrap in tin foil. Any suggestions? Thanks

It depends on the recipe. This might help....

I marinate them in a lemon garlic mustard marinade, and cook them directly on the grill. Putting them in foil is not grilling (more like steaming). I have done them on the foil grillers also. The fish basket picture above is also a good alternative, as they do need to be handled carefully.
When I cook salmon on the bbq, here's what I do:
I take a cedar plank and soak it for a couple of hours.
I mix 10% Maple Syrup, 90% water & pepper in a bowl.
I put the Salmon on the plank and pour the sauce over it and let it cook for about 25 minutes on the bbq.
There are a variety of marinades and recipes too though. Most of them are very good. I'm a big fan of salmon. But for the most part, planking salmon takes most of the effort out of bbq'ing it.

I use something similar to this, but the handle is detachable so I can close the lid. I make a rub I found on www.recipezaar.com (http://www.recipezaar.com) and cover my salmon with it. Then grill it.
I abandoned using a cedar plank for a smoke box.

I have a fish basket that I use often, but when it comes to salmon steaks or trout I plank.

If you want some smoke flavour plank. if you want smoked fish use a smoker.

Technically... if you want "Grilled Salmon" you place it on the grill, or use a fish basket or seafood grill ... if you wrap it in tinfoil you are more or less poaching it in its own juices... on the plank it is a combination of roasting and smoking.
