What has everyone tried? What has everyone preferred?

Just curious.

I'm running Puppy Linux currently and I like it.

Will experiment with DSL and Feather in due time.

I've briefly run Ubuntu & Knoppix from both CD and DVD with decent results. I've had a few issues but would think it's more related to my setup than the disks. The main problem is sound, they all seem to recognize the motherboard onboard sound as default but I'm hooked up to a Creative sound card which I was able to change when Ubuntu booted. I like the looks and will likely at some point install Linux and triple boot.:)

Look for MCNL based on Mandriva 2007. You can download a CD rom image [iso] and run from CD.
There is an option in the menu to install to a USB key. You will need a 1 gig key as a minimum [try to use at least 2 gig].

Last version out i think is called MCNL Toronto. http://www.mcnlive.org/download.htm

I use a 4 GIG Mandriva 2008.1 Spring from USB that you can buy directly from Mandriva. They are now selling an 8 GIG key that boots and actually allows installing to a desktop if you want.

Just found another one that works well. Slax.

Try it.

There's a bunch of them here (http://www.frozentech.com/content/livecd.php) too, just a matter of hunting around to see what is the most current.
