Well seems how it was game one of the pre season and they didn't have all the regulars dressed I will just wait till the regular season to judge them. It seemed to me that the centre ice line was throwing some of the players off a bit, must be odd to have to pretend it's not there =\ and some of the rule changes are nuts, all the games are averaging 19 or 20 penlties a game .. if Bettman wanted to speed up the game that's not the way to do it. Will see what happens against Boston later tonight

I don't know about anyone else but these rules changes and constant penalties being called are making me crazy, there were 34 minutes in 2 minute minors during the Leafs/Habs game, I say bring back the centre ice line, go back to the old rules and please wear the white uniforms at home again !!

An increase in penalties was expected Lee Anne. The director of NHL referees said so before the pre-season began. They want to set the tone now in order to force the players to abide by the new rules.
It's a steep upward learning curve for the players right now, but over time, I think you'll see fewer and fewer penalties (hopefully anyway). In many ways, players have to "re-learn" parts of the game that were second nature before.
I'm sure once this season is over, the owners, general managers, referees etc. will sit down and review the effects of the new rules and tweak them accordingly.

I knew there was going to be an increase but it's boring when every 2 minutes they have to stop play for this this or that. They shouldn't be tweaking anything, they should let the players play the way they learned the game, it's hockey not ballet

I take your point, but the game was way too slow before, with all the clutching, holding, hooking etc. That had to end.
The only way the game will enjoy a resurgence is to speed it up and focus on offense. Hopefully, the cheap short artists and penalty box warmers will eventually be run out of the league with these new rules. Time will tell though.

Ok...Sens are just kicking ass and taking names. And they have a half-decent goalie in nets now. I foresee good things for these bunch. Yeah it's the pre-season, but they won't change how they play during the regular season. They won't just automagically start sucking.
Although a win by the Leafs in the playoffs over the Senaturds will be that much satisfying.

I went to the game last night and the Leafs just didn't look like they were ready for the Sens. I'm a Sens fan and I like Mats, but even he seemed lethargic out there.
It's always good to see Tucker get taken down though...
Good game, not alot of penalties compared to some games that have been played around the league. Toronto did adjust later in the game and made it a bit more respectable to me anyway. Hasek made some good saves but he really wasn't tested too much. The goals he gave up were from some big juicy rebounds so we'll see if he can hold out past Dec.
I'm in no way thinking that Ottawa will "own" Toronto. It's a long season and they will meet each other often. But I can only hope that the Sens can get by T.O. in the playoffs ... For just once... :tti:

Please remember....it's PRE-SEASON. There is no need for the elite players of the Leafs to play their heart out. Look at all the big name players that have been injured during the pre-season. The year that the Leafs beat out ODD DUH WAH in the playoffs with a sweep of 4 games straight....that pre-season year they only won 2 games. Just because one team gives their all, does not mean that the other is not sitting in reserve and waiting for when it matters most.
So I wish the PREjudging within the PREseason would stop especially since the goalies & rookies we are using are a little PREmature in the league and a lil unPREpared.
That being said, considering we were not nearly as aggressive as ODD DUH WAH, we still managed to pot 4 goals in.
And the battle starts again!!!! Hehe GO SENS GO!!!

There's that word again..."PRE". Who gives a horse's ass if it's pre-season? So what are you saying? The players on the Leafs selectively put their efforts and don't give their 100% everytime they step on the ice?
Maybe that's why the Leafs don't get anywhere in the playoffs.

No, what I am saying is that there is no need to judge during the preseason. With training camp only 2 weeks before preseason, then the 9 games of preseason, there is a lot of line juggling et al. But it's not a case of selectively put efforts....there is just no need to go all gung ho in an area that is more of a trial run as opposed to the real thing.
At least the leafs make the playoffs. Whom do you bandwagon?
well being the preseason, it does mean nothing, lines are being played with, rookies are tying to show themselves, more of an adjustment period especially this year. Bottom line as long as u make the playoffs anything can happen. however having said that it is nice to see the sens on top! ;)

Well having supported the owners all the way through the lockout saying Bettman was right, and now I am going to support him again, because once again, he's right
-In an interview, Bettman was questioned I believe by Greg Sansone on The Score about this very subject. Greg said, wont callling 20 penalities a game be too many stoppages in play an actually be counter-productive in creating more flow?
Gary replied by saying in a manner of words.......... well you cant have it both ways, the fans want a stopping of high sticking, holding, clutching, and all those penalities. You can't just sit down in a room and say guys cut it out, those penalities have to be called and the pre-season will be a stepping stone to establishing what is a penality and what is not. We have the greatest athletes in the world and they will adjust their game to suit the new rules. What this in effect will do, the fans will see is that the officials wont have to call 20/game because the players arn't committing 20 penalities/game it'll be lower.
Greg Says, Ok Gary but what about the feeling that 'here we go again' pre-season the 'big crack down' on penalities etc. then fades away come mid season, what assurances do you see that this will stick>
Gary replied well this new partnership allowed for players, competition commitie, officials etc to all sit down and determine by watching films what a penality is and agree on it. It's not what it was before when the players didn't know and had no say in it, this time it's a total league & players decision. We are growing this game together and these new rules are essential to this.
Dam I remembered all that, shows how much i love this game i guess.
I 100% agree with Gary Bettman again and Im sure that the game & players will adjust and the refs wont have to call 20/game.

one reason, the fans are once again delusioned and have the wool over their eyes.

If they were bad under the old rules where you could clutch and grab, forget about them covering anyone under the new rules

To the people who say, "oh, well the elite players on vacation right now --wait for the regular season."
Guess who's going to matter the most during the playoffs when all the old farts are battered and bruised and need to be carried out on stretchers?
If they are getting these kinds of a performances out of Sen's "non-elite" players even before the actual bloody season has started, then I'm scared.

Well every season starts with hope but somewhere along the lines you have to believe 2 things are forsure
The Yankees are better than the KC Royals
&
The Leafs will never have a solid D core to win the cup, I mean Anahiem is light years ahead of the leafs in that department.
But u know the sad thing,
If the leafs actually got to the stanley cup finals Id be in the bars cheering for the Leafs.
Guess childhood dreams never die!!!, well that's when Dougy and Clark inspired me as a hockey player, they showed more heart than Sundin ever will.
tomorrow I reveal the true story on why Roberts and Newy left Toronto (well what i heard)
PS" You need a Canadian Captain to win the Stanley Cup, only Exception was Modano in 99, I believe.

Roberts and Joey leaving wouldn't have anything to do with the fact they are 40 now, and wanted multi-year deals, and haven't played hockey in a year would it? LOL. I loved them both as Leafs, but lets face it, Joe was an injury waiting to happen when he got there, let alone now. And Gary, well, he might put up 30 points in his last season in Florida, but not worth the package. Time is up. So please tell me mighty Shaman, why did THEY leave? We so desperately needed them.

From what I hear
It's no secret that Roberts and Newy are friends and at their age, want to play together for the rest of their hockey career.
Now come free agent and signing time, and with the new cap system in place, the Leafs upper office management had set a figure for Newy and Roberts. (2.5 mill each) or something.
Now Roberts and Newy's agent wanted 3-3.5 per player. So Roberts goes into the office first and says I want 3 million, the leafs turn around and say ok, but Newy will only get 1.7 or somethin. Roberts says I Can't do that, stab my friend in the back. So after telling the Leafs Im outa here and going to florida
Newy enters negoitiations, Leafs say that they can offer Newy 3.5 million. Newy calls up Roberts and talks to him about the contract. Roberts explains how the Leafs only offered that much because they allotted a certain number to both of them. So now Newy and Roberts are both mad, and they leave together to Florida.
accuracy....... not sure..... friend told it to me........ I tend to think it a plausable story.
Newy an injury waiting to happen, well that's some common sense there.................. hmmmmmmmmm sry i can't accept dumb comments, give up Roberts and Newy and inject more injury cases, it's bull & all about the money, had nothing to do with whether they were injury prone, I think Fergy proved that in his free agent signings, Sry nice try!!!!!!!
Your lucky if O'Neal and Allison put up 30-40 pts this year, Lindros is a great player but 50/50 on a nightly bases.
Oh and I very much doubt that we'll get the battle in the corners Roberts provided that crippled Ottawa and well..... Newy's faceoffs and his cluch scoring time after time.

Maybe Id by a shirt if for 50 bucks I could sit in a place that i could see the game without the players looking like a small jersey with a twig.
well the leafs could go back to white as long as they put some new features on the jerseys.

well for 50 minutes Lindros did nothing, then he decides to 'up his game' huge and lay out guys and score a goal,
I will say that this is the most we can expect from Lindros, are flashes of his old self here and there in close games against rivals, I wouldn't expect this in a 4-0 Leafs leading game, he'll just float around like he did tonight for most of the game.
I got excited though when he layed out those Ottawa players and set up that PP goal, oh Lindros.........................
Hmmmm I wonder though, yes we didn't have Sundin but I think Toronto is really gona miss their true sniper in Mogilny, you just don't feel the presence out there that at anytime a leaf player will snipe a corner.
I look at our shootout, O'NEAL????? ALLISON??????? comon PAT haha

Actually from the beginning of hockey, the home team always wore the colored jersey and the visiting team always wore the white. Cannot remember when it changed, but I am sure it has been that way longer than the whites @ home.
However I do believe they changed it back so that they could introduce the 3rd jersey as a money grab.
