My god this Forum has just died....

It used to be so lively here, now dried all up..
I think it's because it seems to crash to an unrecoverable state, and all Overclocking info is gone and to much trouble to retype it..

Maybe, just maybe, people are becoming happy with their system speed, and see no need to screw with it??

I was disappointed with the latest crash... lost a lot of good posts. Plus, not much new stuff out there recently.

It should be interesting this winter when the Intel/Apple frankenputer start showing up... I wonder if people will start o/c'n 'em.

Nobody posts tutorials, answers to FAQs and general information threads anymore simply because this board is unreliable. What's the point if data's going to be lost at least once a year?

I appreciate the effort put into maintenance of the board and acknowledge that it's a free service, but I believe that it's best to either do it right or don't it it at all. (referring to backup - that's what's missing - Server issues are inevitable)

I made a couple of posts in the FAQ section a few months ago but they aren't worth retyping.

Truth hurts we know. But when your in the 'public eye', preaching weekly about backup, backup, backup.. you should be prepared to follow your own advice. Why can't you take a little knock? Don't get so upset :) We always come back, but the truth is, what many people have said in the past. Hard to worry about posting meaningful and informative info, when it might just all be lost in the morning. If it upsets you that sometimes you guys get called on what is considered your area of expertise, then sorry. But it is justified. You simply DON'T back up your data enough. Ah well.

IF...you knew me well enough, you'd know I have no problem with the truth or the little knocks. IF you had read any of the previous posts regarding what happened here, you'd know that there were backups but unknown to us, the corruption was also within those backups. Making mistakes while being in the public eye is far from abnormal, comes down to the fact that we are all human. My real question is this: If it's so pointless to post here, then why are we even having this conversation yet again?

Rather than put the responsibility on someone elses' shoulders, does it not stand to reason that if you find some information you feel is important, you ought to copy it and save it to a file on your own system? That way should it be needed in the future you could always be the "White Knight" and re - post it for the benefit of someone else that asks for help with a similar problem??? :rrg:

LOL. My Lord, one of the reasons this board works well is because it is tight knit, but sometimes, just sometimes.. being so tight removes objectivity. Why am I being blasted for pointing out that computer store owners, tv show personalities, and web site hosts are not doing their do? I Think this site is great, please don't get me wrong. I simply agreed with an above post, and expanded.. which many people have done in the past, but suprise.. they were all lost. lol. I have watched I believe EVERY ep of TCM on tv, that I could watch back in the day, and downloaded or watched live on the feed.. Even participated in one. I'm not a TCM hater. But it is odd that this site dies so often. It is the equal of a car mechanic having his car poop out on the highway because he held off changing the oil. There is no excuse. I know, I'm horrible.. Whatever.

It is my understanding that this forum started up a long time ago with a different group.. then some members of that group changed etc.. regardless.. when starting up a forum such as this.. especially dealing with what is it.. oh yes.. Technical issues involving computers.. LOL :D they took on the responsibility of maintaining it, not too mention all the other goodies.. and I do not disagree with Limey32.. I seem to recall the words 'practice what you preach' coming from the creators and leaders of this forum on more than one occasion.. it stands to reason that they should adhere to their own advice.. it is not our responsibility to maintain this forum but those who took it on when deciding to create it... yadda yadda yadda.. you are not stupid.. you get the picture :)

No, the fear is the mods are ban happy. Oh my, someone is causing a stir.. We better ban him/her and have a tea and crumpet. They dare not disrupt the perfect world. All I want is someone with some time on this board, besides me.. which I would be up to about 5k posts by now if it weren't for the crashes, to back me up. It is actually kinda funny. Anybody heard from Steven lately? He kept stuff grounded.

So your saying it is MY job, as a user on the forum, to backup everything useful and be ready to repost it when there is a crash?
Seems to me that if you have an answer to a specific problem you would post it for the benefit of others. I would hope that if you had an answer to a question you had, you would save it so that you had easy access to it and also I would hope that you would return the favour should someone else require that same information if they had a total failure of their system.

I didn't say that it WAS YOUR JOB as a user to backup everything you deemed useful, rather it was a mere suggestion as a neighbourly thing to do.
Personally I never thought of this board as a data base that HAD to be maintained fully by the owners. I always was under the impression this was a board for users to assist one another when problems arise and it was my intent to portray that thought in the previous post.

Wow.... Lets face it sh*t happens boards crash, data bases get corrupted, some parts of a forum slow to a crawl.....people get busy with other things, loose interest maybe change their focus or simply don't have time. But hey you know what Life goes on, if everyone that has posted here(incuding myself) had contributed some usefull info about O/C'ing instead of complaining we'd be off to a good start rebuilding this forum to its once grand splendor.

Forum drama aside, the whole scene just isn't quite as exciting as I used to find it. I tend to care more whenever I hit the point where I need to upgrade something, but as it is my system hasn't changed since this past February (when my old S754 mobo died and I went and upgraded everything...S939, PCI-E, the works) and I'm still very satisfied with its performance. But it's really just the confluence of World of Warcraft, plus the fact that I stopped doing hardware reviews, that I no longer care as much about tweaking and overclocking and benchmarking.

The day I quit WoW is the day I'll probably get back into the OCing scene in a big way.

I don't see how you can't understand it. This was the rundown of what was going on at the time and the question was asked "what to do?"
http://www.lamplite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36

Seems you didn't understand what was being said then and still don't now :(

They had a back up... when restored it was found that it contained the same corruption that caused the crashing in the first place.
By the poll results, most said to 'start fresh' and that's what they did.

Now I would have prefered to save as much as possible and carry on from there, and that's what I voted for.... but that's not what happened so all we can do is carry on :)

I was mearly pointing out mainly to the people that use the OC'ing part of this once great forum, that it's becoming a bit of a nuisance to repost all the same threads that we have entered...
Not once not twice but possibly 3 times if I remember correctly..
I did not mean to point the finger at anyone, I was just voiceing my opinion is all..
Some have taken my first post as a stepping stone to wage a personnel vendetta on certain individuals on this board..sorry for that..

I find it very amusing that you have extensive opinions, want your questions answered and your opinions validated. However, after you elude to being here *before* obviously under a different disguise, so obviously different than the ones you have now, you refuse to answer or even acknowledge the question was asked, you just ramble on.

On that premise alone, as far as I am concerned you can just ramble to your hearts content, justifying anything to you is clearly a totally wasted effort.

As was stated before, no one is keeping you hostage here. If you don't like how the board operates and how we moderate it, then leave here...buy your own damn forum software and open up your own board.

One question to you: Is it just a coincidence that you and Limey32 have the same ip address...no I didn't think so... and just for the record, you were banned by someone else, It was just me you came crying to and I answered you.

PS: To the original poster of this thread:

You didn't start anything here, your thread was hijacked by someone who has a sore spot for being previously banned.

Deb,

Do yourself a favour and don't waste your time responding to Avril33. She's only looking for an audience. No sense adding fuel to the fire.

Just keep on doing what you're doing. Life's too short :)

You're right there...I have much bigger things to worry about, this Wednesday being the biggest with Les's sister's bone marrow transplant to combat leukemia. Moving along now.....

Ooooo, so now the game is afoot. You think you've got one up on me. Now I'm supposed to trudge back through all my stuff and find out who you really are. I already have an idea who you are and have for a long time but the thing is, I don't really care enough to track you down. Uh oh.. don't look.. my I.P. address is showing :D actually.. I do not have a sore spot.. my only intention within this thread was to see how quickly I could liven it up.. :) I succeeded :) Nothing wrong with inflaming ones passion for something... and like it or not, the key to excitement is adding a little life into the proverbial party if you will :) Just because I do not agree with how something is run or in this case, moderated etc.. does not mean I do not want to be here :) hense the differences in opinion :) Yogi was not entirely wrong but not for the reasons he/she is thinking.........................

As for Limey32 and me having the same I.P. address.. well.. you and I both know there are many reasons for that and the one you are thinking about.. I assure you is not the case.. can you figure it out.. ? Do you even want to..? No.. you do have more to worry about.. if I had known about the illness in the family.. I never would have been so tacky as to pick this moment in time to start a debate.. I am not heartless.. please accept my deepest sympathies and compassion and hope that Les's sister wins the battle.. my thoughts and prayers are with her

FYI... I am in the database for a possible bone marrow donor and I strongly recommend that anyone else who hasn't done so.. register.. it is not life threatening to you and will ultimately save a life.
