The lizardlike space aliens of V will be invading Earth once again.
ABC is reworking the '80s sci-fi TV classic, according to Variety, perhaps hoping to score a hit like Sci Fi Channel's re-imagined Battlestar Galactica. The updated V project is being written by Scott Peters, co-creator and executive producer of The 4400.
"Whenever I mention V to anybody, they still have a lot of good memories about the original movie and series," Peters told Variety. "Everybody has that imagery of their uniforms, or the visitor eating a hamster. It's a science fiction icon and too good to pass up."
Don't look for the original V's Holocaust/Nazi Germany slant, Peters said, although the show will explore the dangers of a cult of personality that incites blind devotion to leaders. The new show will feature duplicitous aliens like the original's Visitors -- who knows if they'll eat hamsters or not and will focus on a Homeland Security agent and her alien-infatuated son.
