Hi all. A quick post to get this going. I first went to see 'War of the Worlds'. I was hyped as all heck to see it. I love end of the world/alien invasion flicks. The reviews were off the hook. Well, it was 2+ hours I wish I had back. Horrible story, 2 of the most annoying kids I have ever witnessed, and an ending that made me want to scream it was so quick and silly. The ONLY movie I have ever seen that the only actor I liked in it was Tom Cruise. Best movie of the summer as most reviews and people seem to say?.... Garbage IMHO.

Next was 'Batman Begins'. Again, amazing reviews.. supposed to be the best Batman flick ever. Well, the plot was ok, but the acting sucked. It was waaaay too dark. The fight scenes were some of the worst ever, you couldn't see anything, and they were too fast. The bad guys were boring as heck. Overall, my least favorite Batman off all-time, including Batman and Robin LOL. But still left the theatre happier than from 'War of the Worlds'.

Then I watched 'Land of the Dead'. Didn't expect much, as the whole series is cheezy and campy, but it is supposed to be, and I happen to like Zombie flicks. This one was ok.. nothing special, but didn't dissapoint me. Got exactly what I went in expecting, and for a Zombie flick, that is all you can ask.

Finally, tonight I watched 'The Fantastic Four'. Opposite reviews on this one, according to Rotten Tomatoe, it was supposed to be an utter load of Cr*p, and not worth watching. Well, I had a great time watching this flick!! There was comedy, action, and a little romance thrown in. I went into this one expecting a bomb, and left happy and waiting for the sequel.

Anywho, my week in movies. :)

I saw War of The Worlds twice and loved it. I also saw Batman Begins and Land of The Dead. I really liked Batman Begins, it was awesome. I loved how they turned the whole thing around and made it 100x better than the previous ones. How did you not get disappointed over Land of The Dead but over the other two? It was alright, but nothing compared to War of The Worlds or Batman Begins which I really enjoyed. Haven't seen Fantastic 4 but want to... it seems to me that you hate the movies you look forward to but enjoy the ones you think you'll hate? Hmm, maybe you go into those movies expecting a 'lil too much...

Anyways, I thought Batman and War of The Worlds were great. Meh.

one of the reasons you gave for hating Batman Begins, is the reason so many people love it. because of it being dark. dark, is how batman originally is.

the fight scenes are truelly how batman would be, he takes them out swiftly, by surprise, because he is usually outnumbered, and I dont ever recall batman ever carrying any guns.

the movie being dark, I thought that one of the villian's suited this movie quite well. and the other villian is one of his greatest villians, although not the greatest, as that would fall with the joker.

I finally saw batman begins last night and it blew me away , it was absolutely perfect.

I heard some complain about the fight scenes but the way they were shot were perfect. No overly flashy movies he used basic and effective martial arts for taking out multiple oponents, no messing around. Christian bale was perfect in both roles as bruce wayne and batman. I really like that they spent time on his training with ras al gul (however you spell it) and even took just enough time to show him as a kid.

I cant wait for the sequel , especially after the ending to begins........whoever they get to play "you know who" has some mighty big shoes to fill.

I saw War of the Worlds, It had some good parts, but yea, the ending sucked, lots of parts I wished I could of just fast forwarded past because it was so boring. They dont even really explain why that happened at the end and why they came. They just left you to watch it over and over and think about it. The best alien movie I think is Independance Day (I much rather watch that movie again than War of the Worlds).

I couldn't stand Independence day. Over-indulgent, ultra patriotic tripe!
CG does not a movie make!

Last movie that I saw that was worth the price of the rental was I ♥ Huckabee's

im looking forward to devild rejects as well but i personally think that house.... was one of the worst movies ever created. I thought it was supposed to be a horror flick not a boring as hell comedy.

I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and enjoyed it. As usual Depp was good and Burtons wild imagination was visually evident.

Some other flicks I've recently seen are Initial D, Returners, Dear Frankie, Millions, Survive Style Five+, Izo and Nobody Knows.

BB was the worst Batman ever, and DR looks like a sick movie ( And not in the new kiddie way), I mean bad. Rob Zombie? Please.

batman forever and batman & robin were the worst batman movies ever. BB at least tried to bring it back to the more darker ways like batman and batman returns. it wasn't as good as those but I thought it did a pretty good job. there wasn't any teeny bobber crap in it like the last two.

And as far a DR is concerned, it will be great. Rob Zombie knows how to make good F***ed up movies. :)

I can never forgive Tim Burton for ruining Batman. Virtually every one of his movies start Johnny Depp, so I'm bored of seeing the same thing over and over again, his movies are all so similar.

I think Batman begins is the best batman movie even better than the first two. I didnt mind batman forever but they just made a joke of batman in batman and robin.

Ah well we have two more batman begins films to look forward to and i cant wait.

as for rob zombie, this is his second film so how can you say he knows how to make a good messed up movie? He hasnt even made a good movie yet.

Whats up Law.
The Returner wasn't anything special but the CG is well above average for an asian flick and I'm gaining more respect for Takeshi Kaneshiro since he can speak fluent Japanese and most Chinese dialects and has been successfull in films in both HK and Japanese film industry. In the future he's going to give Tadanobu Asano a run for his money in Japan. The chick in the film seems to be the next big star as she is in Initial D as well, shes rather cute.

Izo is not Miike's best work but its totally weird and I don't think I've ever seen that many people get killed in a movie before. I'm not sick in the head or anything but in a sadistic way it was kinda cool seeing people getting sliced in half and slaughtered like animals. Its also kind of historical to see two giant forces in Japanese cinema work together, Miike and Kitano. Miike's next film looks to be his biggest budget yet and I'm sure getting hottie Chiaki Kuriyama in the film will attract people who have not seen a Miike film.

Initial D is based on a hugely popular Japanese manga/anime and is a HK made film shot in Japan. I don't know where my friend got the DVD from but it was perfect quality on his projector except for the fact the audio was all dubbed in Mandarin even though the original audio is a mix of Cantonese and Japanese. I guess its sord of a ghetto low budget drifting version of Fast & Furious without all that Hollywood filler and sensationalization crap. What little VFX they used were actually really effective in the racing scenes and the cinematography was really good. They must of used some neat camera rigging contraptions on the cars. It seemed pretty realistic to the stuff that really goes on over there cause my cousins have taken me to some of those a few years ago. Except I saw them on the city streets and in the movie its a famous moutain route with insane intestine shaped curvey roads. Overall I though it was an average film but its cool hearing that it beat out Lucas's Sith which is a big deal. I don't know how the original audio sounds but the Chinese actors are supposed to play Japanese characters so I think its kinda weird having them speak Chinese to a Japanese actor and vice versa. I guess the real HK version is going to dub out the Japanese language.

Well I cant wait to see it. Im not sure when i will get a chance to but soon enough.

Sadly i have only seen two Miike movies. Audition and Ichi the killer. I want to see some more soon and will rent some when i get a chance. Some are hard to find in my area though all i seem to find now is Izo because my local dvd store that had rare and hard to find movies was bought out and pretty much just hacked up and was gone soon after. I was going to maybe check out fudoh the next generation, dead or alive and Sabu but now ill have to find them elsewhere.

True that the FX in returner were neat , i did like the slow motion run through the debris and explosions and then into that ship but there was only one fight i liked and the rest was pretty boring.

I also watched Sky high the other day (forget who it was by) because it had a great sounding premise to it but the movie did not pull it off at all. The story was just convoluted and didnt bother tryign to make sense, the acting was bad (had the same guy as starred in Versus (which wasnt that good either) anyway i couldnt even watch it to the end.

Other than that Old boy was just amazing and thats about all ive seen lately

oh , i have been wondering when Azumi 2 will be hitting dvd , if you have any info let me know, i really liked the first one.

A buddy of mine saw Azumi 2 and said it was brutal. Its worse then what Battle Royale 2 was to the original one. A prime example of making a sequel that ends up bombing. I could have downloaded that ages ago but I got better things to get.

I was taking a peek at all the pirated DVD stores in Chinatown and man there were so many of them in the malls on Spadina. I did find a good one on Dundas one or two blocks east of Spadina. Its a store with a rack outside showing some DVDs they sell. I walked downstairs and was blown away that the entire store only sold bootlegged DVDs. Tonnes of asian ones but also lots hollywood stuff as well. I mean the ones in the malls are just booths but this place was a normal sized store which looks like a regular music stores but pure piracy heaven. $5 each or 5 for $20 which is a sweet deal.

cool ill check that place out.

and not suprised that azumi 2 would be bad but i was kinda hoping it wouldnt be. ah well..
