I am sure this question had been asked before, but as a administrator that is going to venture into the Linux world, which verison would you recommend. How are the drivers for them, ease of setup and use, speed, stability, and software. Any ideas or thoughts would be great.
thanks

I think in choosing a distro you need first ask what will you use it for?
another thing is do you have experience with linux or are you new to
it?
most distros have a live cd that you can boot off of and test to see if
you like it. I would suggest trying a few.

Agree with Ken. Are you planning on setting up server or just want to play with a desktop version?
The best bet before you install is to try a Live CD and see which one you like.

Personally all of the distros I have used are really easy to install. I think one of the easiest is Mandrake/Mandriva

I like ubuntu. Very easy to learn. So far no driver conflicts. Lots of resources to help you if you have questions. Even got a firewall (shorewall) with it. Can connect to the internet right after install.
Pick up the recent Linux magazine and try Suse Pro 9.3 or download Mandriva 2006. Great desktop choices. On a laptop with a wireless card I like SimplyMepis 3.3.2 Found my wireless Dlink card instantly.
