Linux (specifically Ubuntu 8.04)?
I'm trying to apply this one: http://groups.google.com/group/linux.kernel/msg/1d6d57ebd0a25a23?dmode=source&pli=1

But admittedly, for the life of me, I can't figure out how.

Any help and suggestions would be appreciated!

This is more like a kernel hack than a patch. Unless you truly know what you're doing, I wouldn't even think about it. In any event try searching http://www.ubuntuforums.org for some help.

Essentially you add the listed functions and procedures to your existing kernel source code and compile it whilst praying that it will work and not break anything else.
