I haven't used WinMx for a couple of weeks or so, when I tried this evening it just won't connect. I have had 2 new drives installed in my PC (DVD & CD_RW), but don't know if it's just me or if WinMx is down.

Any help appreciated.

My edit: I just tried to go to www.winmx.com and it can't be found......

I remember hearing a week ago that the music companies were trying to sue WinMX and shut it down. I'll post the news link if I can find it.

Looks like it's toast, for now. Thanks for the reply, I thought it was just my "disaster".

I looked at that, but it is scary. I'm definitely not PC savvy enough to go there. I'll have to talk to our IT fellow at work.

Thanks, Ken_ver

Here's what I could find:

http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/WinMX_shut_down_following_RIAA_requests

http://www.tomshardware.com/hardnews/20050922_104334.html

Seems like WinMX shut down as of the 22nd of September.

The addy is for a site with a downloadable "patch" for WinMX

I have tested the host file found in your link.
under win98se it did not work for me but may work for others
with different setups.

new news:)
the host file dose indeed work. but you must do a complete shut down
(cold boot) not just a restart.

I'm too chicken to try the patch - I'm afraid I'll mess up my PC. What about Limewire, does anyone know it it is up and running?

I've been using Limewire for some time. Used it on the weekend, no problems. :)
