An American photographer named Billy Joe Dupree from Miami, Florida
decided to write and photograph a coffee table book about the famous
churches of the world.
Naturally for his first chapter he decided to research the American
churches so he worked his way northward planning to work his way across the country from South to North.
On his first day inside an Atlanta church taking photographs, he noticed a golden telephone mounted on the wall with a sign that read $10,000.00 per call. Intrigued, he asked a priest strolling by what the telephone was used for?
He was informed it was a direct line to Heaven and that for $10,000.00
one could talk to God.
The Billy Joe thanked the priest and went along his way.
The next stop in Raleigh, NC, at a very large cathedral, he saw the same golden telephone with the same sign under it. Wondering if this was the same kind of telephone he saw in Atlanta, Billy Joe asked a nearby nun its purpose?
She told him that it was a direct line to Heaven and that for $10,000.00 he could talk to God.
"I see" replied Billy Joe, growing ever so curious at these "lines to
God".
Billy Joe spent the next few weeks travelling across the continental
U.S. finally ending his American church tour in Seattle, WA.
Amazingly, in every church, he saw the same golden telephone with the same $10,000.00 per call sign under it.
Upon leaving Seattle, the Billy Joe saw a sign saying "Route 5 North -
CANADA" and decided to see if Canadian churches had the same golden
telephone.
Finally arriving in an old Vancouver, BC church, sure enough, there was
the same golden telephone, only this time the sign under it read 25 cents per call.
Surprised and very intrigued by now, Billy Joe asked the church's pastor about the sign. "Father, I've travelled all over America and I keep seeing this same golden telephone in many churches, I'm told that it is a direct line to Heaven, but in every state the price was $10,000.00 per call. Why is it so cheap here?"
The priest smiled and answered: "You're in Canada now son, it's a local
call."
