I would like to copy my uncle's DVDs of movies that he'd downloaded and put on DVD blanks. I understand that I need software to do this...would anyone suggest software (preferably freeware) that does the job to your satisfaction?:)

If you re-read his original post, this is downloaded stuff not making backup copies of purchased dvd's.

You will need a dvd rom and a seperate dvd burner to do this. Why not just use the software that came with the dvd burner?

He can still burn it with one dvd burner right? Sorta like making a back up of a cd where you stick the cd in the burner it reads it and then asks you to put in the blank cd.

Welcome. Hope things work out for you.

Agreed. You can do it with only the dvd burner but dvd's do hold a lot of info, thats why I suggested using a dvd rom drive and a dvd burner in the same system. Some people dont have that kind of space in their system not to mention the additional time (probably doubled) to copy a dvd. I like to keep things simple to do. Dvd roms are not that expensive to add to a system these days on top of having a dvd burner if you plan to backup more than one or two dvd's.

Well the movie has to be downloaded onto the drive anyway if it needs to be compressed. No need to get a DVD Rom...I know I don't have a need for one. I dump the movie on my drive, do the necessary trimming and what not, and burn it again. Simple as that.

Thats true but considering that he mentioned it was his Uncle's dvd's, I am under the assumption he wants to burn them on his computer at his own leisure rather than spend hours at his uncle's place or bother his uncle to spend the hours to do it for him. Burning dvd's is a lengthy process. I can understand his reason for wanting to know how to do it himself.

actually i did read it.

downloading is legal.
burning and giving to someone else isn't (messed up laws aren't they).

and he can burn just about everything with the program i mentioned.

makes things kind of a iffy subject but then again this is the darkside...lol.
