the stupid thing is they've kept delaying it. but it looks as tho from the screen shots. you can make you GUI look like that with a simple windows theme. personally I thought it'd look alot more different than that for the time they are taking

I used object desktop's windowblinds. Theme is called Longhorn slate 4051.
The icons are hard to get though because of copyright issues last I heard.

This is interesting (http://www.soft32.com/download_3720.html)

If you try the transformation tool I linked, I just ran it & seems safe. Make sure you're in safe mode before running it & also as you've done, create a restore point because it does modify system files.

What about functionality? Looks are nice, but what can longhorn do that is new or improved?
Thanks

Dan, you can use windowsblinds to change the themes.

Ottawaman, I don't know what the real one is supposed to do lol so I can't help. It did add the sidebar but there's not much to it.
It's pretty close to sidebarXP beta that was out. If you wish to change it,try this (http://www.desktopsidebar.com/)

If you decide to change the default sidebar, the one I linked is a LOT better!
More options, looks better as well.

I hate it.

I have longhorn installed on a partiton, I played around with it and its stupid.

They took away the cool clock sidebar that was supposed to change how windows looked. The Start menu, you have to click on it and it doesnt have the expandable menus any more. and My Computer is the stupidest thing I ever saw, anyone remember the OLD Windows Explorer? Now THAT made sense. It looks kinda pretty (well the 1 theme that came with it) and the ONE screensaver (not even the cool stars one (the windows logo crap).

As for functionality, 5023 has no network support, no help files and no system restore (it says it does, but there is nothing). I am assuming that this will all be ther when released to the public, but i think that 4072/4079 was a much better release.

You should try the tranformation tool I linked earlier. It has the sidebar but it's drab then found a better one & linked it above as well.
If that's the real longhorn you installed, it's a stolen one because it's never been released. There's a scaled down one slated for 2006 but the full won't be out til maybe 2007.

Its the beta version, which HAS been released (thank you very much). You can find this and other verions on www.msbetas.org (http://www.msbetas.org) . LONGHORN is a PUBLIC release (and for ONCE I didnt Steal this software!)

I wouldn't exactly call 'a select few testers" a public release. If it was public, anyone and everyone can get it.
According to that site, the beta isn't out yet, sometime this summer it says.
That's not even an MS site.

maybe "select testers" officially on the microsoft site. Its not my fault if Microsoft has crappy security and leaks the betas. And besides, so what. If you dont like it YOU can Buy MY software.

Oh and by the way...

This program Seriously screwed yo my computer. It told me to reboot (so I did) and then just sat at my bios screen for 20 mins.

Lucikly i had my longhorn disk right in front of me, and stuck that in. Rebooted, and my windows loaded up with the longhorn settings, So I mean it DID work, but it was a pain in the butt to get it to boot up. I had to reboot 4 times while trying to uninstall, my windows kept crashing or lagging out (oh yeah, it booted by itself once). I think its finally working again though. It looked pretty cool...that sidebar thingy is not in the 5028 release. Microsoft decided not to go with that after all.

Doesn't mean YOU have to use leaked software either.
They may be saying official testers on the real MS site but that is still not a public beta.

Isn't there a law about using leaked software? Isn't that the same as piracy?
