Take yourself back to the 70's. Popular smoke-filled Toronto clubs - the El Mocambo and The Silver Dollar Room - were filled to capacity every night. Across Canada, university students danced into "last call" to their favourite visiting bands.
And, while Donnie Walsh's Downchild Blues Band was "flip flop and flying" from one gig to the next,
Dan Aykroyd and the late John Belushi were breaking in to the comedy scene at Second City.
How these three individuals caught up to each other and influenced all that has happened since is the subject of TVO's special edition premiere of Person 2 Person with Paula Todd on October 4 at 8:00 pm.
The show takes an intimate look at the long friendship and mutual admiration between Walsh and Aykroyd. Aykroyd tells Paula how Donnie Walsh and his brother Richard "Hock" Walsh - partners in the early versions of Downchild - were the direct inspiration for the Blues Brothers phenomenon. And, Walsh explains how the Blues Brothers helped build an audience for the blues, and for his own band.
