Chris Pirillo went GA-GA over it so thought it might interest some people

Not having heard of him, I Googled his name. It seems he's easily impressed by what I consider mundane. It's hard to say who needs a better life, him or me. ;)

The fact you didn't know him doesn't make him unknown

I never called him an unknown, I merely stated that "I" had never heard of him (hence the curiosity to Google him). The rest is just blather and a personal opinion of what I absorbed from spending 15 minutes on his website. He just seemed over-excited about features that are of little consequence (IMNSHO).

it makes sense in that you don't have to bother downloading what you don't want

i'm going to give the resulting iso a try

As an exercise, I gave it a shot. I still ended up with a 400MB CD with what I would call a minimalist useful Live CD. (OpenOffice, FireFox, Samba, some networking tools, etc.). You could probably save 100MB by dropping the "Office" aspect if a simple editor would do. (YMMV)

If space is an issue, there are still distros that are considerably smaller than that.

Having said all that, I would still personally lean towards more flexibility, meaning a more full-featured live CD as the choices are somewhat narrow.
