Problem solved! Just installed an Nvidia GeForce 6200 512 MB DDR2 video card. Win7 immediately recognized it and installed the correct drivers. It works like a breeze. Programs that won't work before are fully functional. I am happy that my PC is back on track.

In your travels, are you aware of any AGP video cards that are fully compatible with Win7?

Though my video card works with Win7, it is not fully functionable. I have been finding that if any program that needs acceleration my card won't provide it.

I have searched with Google but I have not come across any yet. I have Googled my video card ATI Radeon x1650 512 megs but there is no Win7 driver available and there most likely will not be one.

I do have an older MB and this is probably the problem. I don't want to put out a large sum yet. If I can't find an AGP/Win7 compatible system I will have to live with what I have for a while.... maybe a longer.

Thanks

Felix

if you can find a driver for Vista for your card, try it. That worked for me. :)

What do you mean there are no drivers for the X1650? They are right on the ATI site! Google is not the best tool for driver downloads. Always check the manufacturer's site first.

I have already been to the ATI site and loaded in the 2 programs as indicated. All I get is "Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by you video card".

My card is an ATI Radeon x1650 Pro with 512 MB of DDR 2 memory. It is certified for Windows Vista.

Have you tried running drivers in "Vista Compatibility Mode" within Windows 7?

Open Internet Explorer 8 and proceed to this website:

Microsoft Update Catalog (http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx)

In search box type "ATI X1650" and download the latest drivers for Windows 7 ( Pre-release WDDM 1.0 )

Extract cab (Winrar could be used for this)

Go to Device manager -> VGA -> Update driver -> point to folder where you extracted the cab.

Thanks Bluvertigo for your suggestions. I tried them and all I get is the same that the initial driver that was installed by Microsoft is the most up todate.

It does indicate that the problem is due to a Code 43.

I am wondering if there might be a driver for my MB, MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum AMD 939, that needs to be installed.

Found a Mircosoft Compatability site for video cards. Guess what..... my card was at the top of the list as being incompatible with Win7.

I guess that solves my problem with the card. I will have to look for another card.

Thanks for all your suggestions.
