This cutting off by rogers for a virus has hit me three times in the last 3 weeks. I have run there anti virus software twice, re-formatted one of may computers and just today they cut me off again told me the virus was back.
I had to beg them to at least turn my machine on and disconnect my sons from the network. We figured his is re infected somehow and the tech support told me wait 5 days if you dont get suspended(for the4th time!) youll know it is his machine.
I think I'll just re-format his machine again in the meantime.
This is frustrating me very much. I know they're just trying to protect themselves but I think it is just a way to discourage peer to peer on ther part. Can they not come up with a way to protect themselves and leave us to deal with the virus an not suspend us?
Finally is Bell like this? I have been thinking about switching maybe.
Thank You

Bell will also cut you off in you have a virus and are spreading it on the network. They have to cut you off becuase they can be held liable for any damge your computer causes if saw the problem and didn't do anything.
I think the real question is why does your computer keep getting infected so quickly and easily.

Just out of curiosity, I'm not implying anything but, when you do the format are you using a legal OS disk? Maybe the installation disk itself contains the virus and is installing itself during re-installation of the OS.

Rogers cuts off internet service to its customers that have a virus? Really... when did they start doing this?
My advice is to use an antivirus/spyware program that is not provided by Rogers. The software they provide is inferior. Try AVG, Kasper spy, Mal-aware bytes to name a few. You could download a free trial and see if they detect anything, some of the free trials only detect and require you to purchase the product to remove, but at least you'll know if you have a virus/spyware.
What is the time frame you being cut off? 3 times in 1 month? 1 year?

No I have a client that has been cut off and we did a complete check and again today they got cut off .
Seems it is some sort of IRCbot they say and all of our scans comeback as clean.
I am going to run a rootkit detector on all the systems tomorrow and see if this repairs the systems.
STUPID ROGERS tells me the only way I will know is if they get cut off again.
HOW STUPID IS THAT ? They can't tell us if we have corrected the problem.

I like how rogers has magic software that cuts you off for your viruses spamming their network but the anti virus software they provide can't detect jack.

Well the odds are here he hasn't got a virus issue.
Had to deal with rogers three times before for a couple of my tenants.
It was always exactly the same excuse a ircbot virus.
First time it happened i though nothing off it and ran a scan of the machine..nothing.
Got it hooked up again with rogers and next day the same thing.
At this point they had also cut off another tenant and i knew something was up.
So i took both computers offline and stuck a mac laptop behind a router and set things up so it would appear the os was windows vista.
Two days later rogers did the same thing with the same excuse.
At which point a asked for a supervisor and confronted them about it and asked just how a apple was getting a ircbot virus.
Low and behold it stopped happening.
The really sad thing is that they haven't even changed the excuse..its the same ircbot virus they used for the last 4 years.
You think they would at least using something newer as a excuse for hosing the customers.
I have no respect at all for rogers anymore when they use bad lies to kick people off the internet when they have oversold a area.
PS.. had those tenants switch over to teksavvy and low and behold tek saw no virus activity ...lol.

GEEZ! That's good to know! I need my internet for work as well because a lot of times I work remotely to connect to the clients.

What is the time frame you being cut off? 3 times in 1 month? 1 year? All ISPs have been doing that for years. It's not just "if you have a virus" it's if you have a bot that's flooding the network then they'll disconnect you.

Ouch that just not right.
Hopefully this is the last of it but i wouldn't hold my breath on it.
May take going over their heads to stop the nonsense.

I see nothing wrong with booting a pc that is flooding the network, possible with a virus....
Screen capture your internet LAN status and show us, if there is ALOT of sent packets that's the reason...
Ask them what port they think is the problem, then do netstat (http://commandwindows.com/netstat.htm)-b -v (I think) to see which program is using that port, then lookup that program and find the cleaner for it...

If they would give us a little help from Rogers end then it would be great , we could shut all systems down and then turn each one on.
This Bot they talk about is a real killer to remove and Rogers will not support their customers in removing it at all.

In all likely hood they probably don't have a virus.
More like rogers playing its games again.
