While browsing I got the following message:
W32/Virut.a!
Your computer has been infected
Another progress bar pops up and shows it sitting at 17% complete... It was still sitting there an hour and a half later.

Then a mesage box pops up....
Message from Webpage
Now it wants me to download a cyber security tool

I ran AVG 8.5.424 version is up to date.

Avg indicated no problems.

What's next?

Do not do the download. Have you tried rebooting??

If it's in the form of a pop up window, close it & scan for malware using Spybot S&D or Malwarebytes.

Thanks for the tips. Waited for the AVG scan to run then rebooted. Ran Spybot after updating it and got the usual messages. Nothing about the virus..
Downloaded Malaware Bytes and ran that and again no virus threats.
Removed Malaware Bytes for the program folder.

How will I know if the system is really under attack.. I noticed earlier that the windows security center indicated that the firewall was disabled. I just checked and it is now operational.
