I was originally planning on using Armstrong vinyl tile but after this thread http://www.thecomputermechanics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4205 I've decided to go with something else. DOes any one have any good suggestions? I'm willing to pay up to $2 a tile.

One problem with peel and stick tiles, is the glue oozing up between the cracks if they are under a chair that is used frequently by a heavy person. Even Solarian tiles can do
this after ten years.

I'd strongly recomend that you avoid peel'n'stick no matter who's. I have yet to see them look good after traffic and time. How big an area are you going to cover?

It's for a rarely used washroom that's about 40 sq ft.

You can buy 9'x6' vinyl and lay it, far better results. Follow the installation instructions as it's not difficult, just take your time. You'll ultimately be happier, especialy in a washroom. jmo

I'm just having a hard time finding good tile. Most of the stuff is 30 - 60 cents a tile.

you could try Millwork.. i bought some there afew years back for $2.50 a tile, but they were twice as thick as the 99 centers. ..for a room that size I'd just do ceramic..can always get some nice ones on sale
if you go with the peel and stick ..put down a liquid floor leveller first

That's the problem.. there's hardly any GOOD "Peel and Stick" vinyl tile on the market anymore.
Usually if someone wants something good, they get sheet vinyl or ceramic (or something else).
Even the industrial tiles, such as those used in hair cutting places aren't as good as they used to be... I know many that complain about it.
You have your work cut out for you trying to find something Mr. Apollo. I've been looking for a couple years for something for my front entry, and I'm yet to see something good in vinyl... :rrg:
Good Luck... and let me know what you find :)

OK.. was just at Millwork in Oshawa and they have Armstong and other peel and stick of a little better quality, had cheapies too.
if your set on peel and stick..try lifting all the baseboards and nailing a thin strip of wood(like the wood used for carpets without the upward nails) butted up to the tile..this will keep the tiles from separating from the weight of people walking on them and stop the glue from coming up through the cracks...then replace the baseboards
Since its a bathroom ..use galvanized nails(no rust)
Hope this helps
