BVE Trainsim. It was created by a Japanese graduate student. It's supposed to be better than MS Train Simulator. As it's free and there's a pretty big community behind it.

That's some downloadable routes for the London Underground and other routes in London (b2 = BVE Trainsim version 2, b4 = BVE Trainsim version 4). You can just search for BVE Trainsim for more user created content.
