Just got Windows 7-64bit as part of a new laptop purchase, and my internet speed is somewhat slow. The pages take longer to load than they did when working on a vista laptop, with lower specs! I have had my internet connection checked, which works fine on my desktop, and channged cables but nothing. I run avg. Anyone has any suggestions?

The first question to ask would be if you're using a 64bit browser?

Could it have something to do with some of the built in security features? Windows defender or the extra browser security in the newer versions of IE? I'm just guessing, I'm using windows 7 but I don't know it really well yet. I would definitely try another browser and see what happens.

Are you using a wireless network to access the internet on the laptop?

Are you using avg ver. 9?? if yes, uncheck the link scanner and surf shield.

All the latest drivers loaded? Is video in device manager running off the actual manufacturer's driver?

May be just graphics that are loading slow if the driver isn't loaded.

Try downloading google chrome and see if it works fast.

If it doesn't its likely the wireless driver driver for the laptop and if it does run fast its a browser issue.

Seen this happen a few times when the laptop maker is slow updating their drivers.
Almost always this can be gotten around by going to the wireless makers site.

I don't think using IE 32 bit or 64 would make a difference. I have W7 64 bit but I use IE 32 bit just becuase not everything is compatable with IE 64 bit.

What are the specs of your laptop?

I have totally removed AVG 9 and gone with Avira. I think it is working better now, but time will tell. Thanks for your help, if that does not do it, I will check the other suggestions.

my internet got very slow or hanging after installing AVG 9. I removed the link scanner, and no problems now with the internet. I'm thinking about replacing AVG with something else - if I just knew what. I got window xp, and I read that window 7 had the same problem.

Why not try Avira? I have heard good things, thats the reason I reluctantly gave up AVG that I have used for years.

Just do a quick Google search, all the reviews are positive for it.

I had been using Avast I noticed that Ms Security Essential catches what Avast misses!
Worth checking out.
