I know that a CRT screen will outlast a LCD in lifetiem, but a LCD is better on the eye's and such.
but i need know know what wouls be best for gaming.

LCD's have come a long way, very good response times, low power usage, easy to move around, pricey but thats gotta be expected for something that is better.

Go for LCD. High resolution, fast response time (8ms), high contrast ratio (at least 600:1 or higher like 800:1). Watch out for the pixel count .... example: .29 is not good but .21 is.
EDIT: most LCDs these days, at retail, are around the .29 pixel pitch. One reason I haven't moved to LCD yet. Have seen some at .26

crt's for the longest time were the best for gaming but noe lcd's have caught up.
you need a lcd with a response time below 25.
look before you buy since its a matter of taste and some just don't look good.
lcd's require a recent video card so useing something like a aiw 7800 or gf4200 isn't going to work as good as a new one.
i have a samsung 191t with a aiw 9700 and it never ghosts or blurs during any game or movie, works like a dream.
Mine isn't even made anymore since they have gone one to faster versions of it.
LCD specifications are pretty much useless - see before you buy.
CRTs tend to produce a better quality picture, most likely last longer (time will tell) and reproduce colours more accurately. The fixed resolution issue presented by flat panel displays leaves a lot to be desired if you choose to run it at lower res.
On the other hand, LCDs are sharper, brighter and generally reduce eye strain over conventional monitors.

i have yet to see a crt thats had a better picture then my lcd.
mind you the watching low res movies or the like on a high res lcd tends to cause the movie to look bad.
these days though souch video's are rare.

My P991 has very good output, very happy with it. It hasnt faded or gone blurry like those cruddy Acer CRT monitors. Not interested in purchasing an LCD yet. A huge turn off though is the horrible scaling done, my T23 does this and it is terrible (fixed my res at 1024x768). I use a wide variety of resolutions for different fullscreen apps and the scaling just doesnt work in my favour.

My computer has a CRT while my wife has an LCD since she sits in front of it for work all the time. I've tried gaming on it and it works pretty well, probably just use to my crt though. My next monitor will probably be an LCD, much easier on the eyes with everyday use and it is a big space saver. So for now crt is my choice.

My next monitor will definitely be LCD once my CRT dies. I got two CRTs creating way too much heat in the room and I'd love to get some of my desk space back. I have played some games on my laptop and I got no problems at all gaming on an LCD screen.

CRT is better for gaming, but LCD is alot easier on the eyes when i'm doing other stuff
I was amazed by the extra desk space when i replaced my crt with an lcd (more room for my junk!). There's nothing wrong with gaming on an LCD monitor, you will need a better quality one though. The difference is negligable if you don't become obsessed over it.

I have a 17" Dell LCD and will be changing to a 19" in the coming weeks. It's GLORIOUS for gaming! The colors are beautiful and I MUCH MUCH prefer my LCD on games than my old NEC 17" CRT monitor.

Gaming is absolutely georgeous on my Samsung 19" 1000:1 contrast ratio, 8ms response time.
Doom3, WoW, rocks.
Even re-installed my old classic Starcraft and got hooked all over again!
Yep major difference between it and my old 19" synchmaster.

CRT for the win this time.
However, I just replaced my old viewsonic with a brand new HP 21" Widescreen F2105. I must say what a difference.
nicer colors clearer picture. my eyes I swear don't hurt anymore.
I just got a Viewsonic VP930b....im loving it..playing quake 4, cs s, movies look great, etc.... im loving it MUCH better than crt.that and when i have to spend large times on the computer for hmwk. its easy on the eyes thank god :P

www.tomshardware.com and look for LCD reviews.
As AMD said, specs are useless unless you see it in person. Believe it or not but there are NO standard specs for LCDs. All companies produce their own specs.

Another area where what was previously correct no longer is. Forget what you read even 12-18 months ago, the market is changing (has changed). Getting away from the fact that LCDs are improvng all the time, the range of qualities (ie differrence between the best and the worst) is probably getting wider. An LCD is not a mark of quality, there are plenty of terrible LCDs out there, just as there are some superb ones.
We are rapidly approaching a point where it will be impossible to get a good quality mid range CRT (some may say that we are at that point already), certainly, the majority of CRTs I see around now, are either cheap and of poor quality, or very high quality 20"+ more suited to professional work. There really is little in between.
I think that although we are rapidly moving toward the point were LCDs will be cheaper than CRTs, we haven't reached it yet. If you decide on what viewable area you want, for the same money, the CRT will almost certainly be a much much better picture.
