I know this might be the wrong forum but it might get more of a response here for the timeframe I need
I need to get a safety done today. does anyone know of a resonable place ( that wont rip you off ) in Ajax area ? I don't want Crappy tire to look at my vehicle for certification. They might want to change my paint color from a hunter green to some sort of freaky color to tell me it will make it go faster.
Sorry, i just don't trust crappy Tire for anything in the service dept

You can always go to a dealer and have it done.

You can also look for a garage with the APA logo on the door that way you have an option to check it out on the Automobile Protection Agency's reports. For access you may have to join as a member but the information is available.
As for the safety, well that is just a check to see what it needs to be "Fit" for Ontario's roads and is by no means a measure to trust the vehicle itself. If buying a vehicle that safety inspection is only the BARE minimum standard and is by no means going to warrant you get a reliable vehicle at all.
If you are doing work on the vehicle yourself, you can check it on your own prior to taking it in by checking the brakes, steering, lights, and body.
No rust perforation is permitted into the passenger compartment.
Exhaust may have no holes.
All lights must work, including your wipers, washers, horn, defroster etc.
For the brakes, you need to remove a wheel, and if there is sufficient lining then you are ok.
Steering may be a bit tougher to check but if you have a metal bar you can check for movement in the upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends, drag link and Idler arm ( for the old type steering gear setup )
Basically if you go over it with a friend as a helper while checking into this stuff you will have a good idea if the garage is trying to defraud you.

CT changed a thermostat on a friends vehicle and are wanting to charge him something like 130 bucks for it. I have always told him not to take your vehicle there for repairs. (Sorry ctcgirl)
BTW to put a plug in for a great garage here in Guelph, I would recommend Norms Esso on Surrey and Wyndham.
