the other day I decided to rent some dvd's and one stands
out as the worst dvd movie I have ever watched.

Bad quality.
bad sound.
bad acting.
screwed up story line.

The movie is War of the worlds.

with:
C. Thomas Howel, Jake Busey,
Peter Green, and Rhett Giles.

directed by David Michael Latt.

the disk by
Kaboom entertainment and
The Asylum home entertainment.

first thing I noticed was picture break up so bad
could not read the menu and it broke up several
time through the movie. (the disk is clean and free from scratches)

Now the sound was horrible in parts just to here dialog I had
to turn the volume all the way up and it was filled with hiss.
during actions scenes the volume had to be turned down to
2%....

The acting could best be described as wooden, still, reading...

Now most of us know the story line of this movie and know
that most of the movie is about aliens. in this flick
most of the time we are watching a fella meet people on
his way to see if his wife is dead in DC. there are many
long scenes that simply have a actor talking bible scripture.

so this stands as a warning wherever you may see this dvd
walk away its complete garbage "in my opinion"

there is a new War of the worlds that was released recently but it was straight to dvd.

They are trying to cash in on the big budget hollywood movie's success.

You should have known better than to rent it

I seen War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise about a week or so ago, I thought it just constantly repeated itself throughout the movie, it also really dragged on (imo) once Tim Robbins character came in .. nothing new or different really went on, I felt the best part was the music and the sounds the aliens made :D

it was marked 2005 but I believe it was 2004.
since I did not mention "Tom Cruise" it should
have been understood that this is not the one
out in theaters now.

you may see this one for sale or rent its your choice
if you rent it. I have seen many versions of this
movie and most are true to the story this one is not.

Law I do know better thats why I rented it sometimes
a movie is made better with the small guy than the
big house box office greed machine.
thats the way I look at it any way......

Lee Anne I am looking forward to seeing the new one
I just hope that the C.G. is not all there is. I like a good
story line and also like to see a different view.
I do like the idea that they use Dakota Fanning. great
young actress.

Actually, this version was made in 1995. We happen to catch it last night and yes, it was horrid...

That is true, sometimes movies with unkown actors can be really good. But as a rule i try to stay away from straight to video movies that come out just as another movie with the same or similar title just came out in theatres.

I saw war of the worlds on the shelf and me and my friend had just seen the hollywood one, but i must say that we were tempted to watch it to see how bad it might be.

The one in the theatre sucked. Really nothing more to say. Was a waste of 2 hours.

It was actually a straight-to-video release in 2005.

I saw the one with Tom Cruise, and it was good until the friggin ending... omg it was sooo unrealistic.

How the hell Tom Cruise son survive??
Also if bacteria was the cause of the alien downfall how did they survive thousands of years ago?

I saw the Tom Cruise version at a drive-ins along with The Longest Yard (2005), Sahara, which was still playing when we went home at 3:15 and (unwatched) The Honeymooners. I would have left before it started anyway. Jackie Gleason is the only Ralph Kramden.

Yeah, I was wondering the same, ha. How DOES his son survive? I mean... there was a large explosion over the hill and a large ship came over, not to mention all the flaming hummers that flew down the hill... regardless, it was enjoyable. As for them surviving long ago when they planted the ships, we don't really have enough info on what went on then to complain about that.

ok I am confused but I am sure it was made some time between 1995
and 2005 lol

yeah I thought that was rather odd that Robbie lived. I thought Robbie's character was really annoying so I wasn't too disappointed when he went up the hill :p Another thing that struck me as odd was that after all those lightning EMP strikes hit the ground and everything electrical was blown out that somehow two people managed to have working cameras.

I really thought this movie was well done and it kept me on the edge of my seat almost the entire movie. It also reminded me a lot of Half-Life 2 and taking down those striders with the rocket launchers.

Oh yeah! I completely forgot about the cameras... that was stupid, ha. You'd think they would've thought of THAT at least... I think this movie was more about the effects than anything else.

I have for the most part been happy with the rentals.
I have cleaned and buffed only 2 disks to get them to
play. and they were damaged bad. but good ol turtle
wax (the green stuff) buffed the scratches out.

this one was in perfect shape I am guessing it was
a bad disk it happens.

I said the same thing... I saw it on friday, and thought it was much better than the orignal.. of course... better graphics... but I couldn't figure out either how his son got home before him... I think he hitched a ride with the army dudes and got close to where is mom was.... I think...

We just saw it today, finally, and really enjoyed it. It's a good feeling to come out of a movie and not feel as if the money spent on tickets was a waste.
