View Full Version : Copy Protection?
A buddy lent me his machine that transfers VHS tapes to DVD. Works real well too. Now I have heard of this type of copy protection on a tape but this is the first time I have encountered it. It won't let me record, or transfer to DVD. Any one know of a way around this? :rrg:
It's a real old Nicholas Cage movie that probably doesn't even exist on DVD.
Thanks, Neal.

what capture device is on this machine?
is it an all in one?
taken from another thread.

I see your location is London
If that's London Ontario check out XS Cargo at Wharncliffe and Baseline
They get the DVD-VHS stand alone combo's in there every so often
They're usually priced in the $150 range
I got a Sanyo there and it's burned any VHS onto DVD I've asked it to
As for copyguard.......had problems with only a few VHS.......found that if I started recording "before" the warning came up at the start it worked Only problem with the Sanyo is it will only use DVR-R's
Other brands use both "+" and "-"
These stand alone combo's also come with input connections
At present I have a cheap VCR and DVD player hooked into the inputs
I guess you can figure that to me R+B doesn't mean music these days
Capture device? It is one complete unit. Panasonic DMV-E75V Diga. I'll try it before the warning comes up. Doing a Belinda Carlisle and Level 42 video right now.
Thanks Ken_ver_1_5.
Neal.
Didn't work. Tried before the warning, after the warning and during the warning.
Bummer!

That's the problem with those combo units... they just won't with some types of copy protection.
If you used a DVD recorder and a VCR you might have a better chance... but no guarantees
Or as Ken uses; the ADS box... that I recommended to you earlier ;)
Your right Dr. I knew things were going to smoothly.

So Ottawaman, if I understand the links correctly even if I use another VHS tape player in, it won't work.

Unless you get a really old vcr without automatic gain control it wouldn't work. Macrovision is a signal embedded into the video signal.
You could go to radioshack and buy a video stabilizer. A time base corrector will work for sure, but is probably out of your price range.
You could capture it to your hard drive via an ADC through firewire.
Then you would need some ripping software.

Hi to all,
I have found that if I output the VCR to the RF (aerial connection) on the DVD recorder then tuning the DVD recorder's tuner to a blank channel and searching for the tape signal, it will allow you to copy the VHS tape despite any encryption it may contain.
My son, who is a T.V repair man, put me onto this and so far it's always worked for me. :d:
