View Full Version : Leafs...do they have any hope of winning?

Whenever I watch other Canadian teams like Vancouver, Ottawa, etc, there seems to be good chemistry between the players. They seem to know exactly where the other person is on the ice...it's weird. And then I watch the Leafs and they look like a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off. Absolutely no team chemistry...maybe I'm just imagining things and talking out of my rear end.
Eddie can only do so much until his groin says goodbye to him...everybody else just pretty much sucks.
Oh..and holy penalties BATMAN!!!!!!!!

No, they stink.. my Jerseys will stay in the closet another year.. :( Eddie is bad now, and without Mats and O'neil they are done like dinner. Like I said in other posts, that got lost, the Leafs will finish out of the playoffs. They are done, put a fork in them. :( Go Leafs Go.

Well it's only game two so I'm not in panic mode just quite yet, if they start the season 0-20 perhaps I will feel different

And the LEAFS lose again.......and the SENATORS PREVAIL AGAIN!!!!!! YEAH!
WOW ... what support for you leafs... sad to hear all that cept lee anne. This is your Toronto Maple Leafs. Regardless of who is injured or having a bad couple of games. lets not forget. leafs lost pretty much every game to ottawa last season. and what happened. they smoked ottawa in the playoffs? so yeah.. GOLEAFSGO
wow........just becasue they have lost the first 2 games, i see that many are jumping ship. Isn't a true fan of a team supports them through thick and thin?? As much as i dislike the leafs (go sens go) they always seem to play with passion regardless if they are winning or losing. and that goes a long way. i htink thats why they have been so sucessful with ottawa in the past. so i guess all i'm saying is, its only the beginning of the season....still alot can happen.......but the sens still rule ;) hehe

A true Leaf fan, not one who sways with the results of each game and how it is played, will always say "TO THE CUP!". Such is loyalty to a team.
TO THE CUP!

see a true fan follows a team through thick and thin, true, but at what point do u take a stand (granted 2 games is a bit premature)
smart fans look at management, players aquired, traded & drafted. And for too long we've seen Toronto mess it up time after time. But the ACC will always be full and forgiving, long as Lindros scores every game.
Eddie isn't bad, he's great, I don't know what game ur watching but he made some great saves, the goals that went in, look no further than the inept play of Mc Cabe and Berg and that Leafs D, they can't keep up w/speed and it's showing,
I wish Jays fans were as forgiving. But Jays fans are very smart people. We know exactly what's required to get into the playoffs, hopefully J.P gets it. Then we'll come back in the 40 thousand at Skydome /Rogers Centre again. When management is serious about winning then the fans can back the team, 100%
Two games does not a season make :)

Considering there are 80 games left I think it's safe to assume the Leafs will win a few between now and April, whether or not they make the playoffs .. well I'll start thinking about that in say Feb. I'm sure Sundin is going to be back, changes will be made and all will be happy. I was just so glad to see HNIC last night that honestly I was not as much concerned with who won but just happy to hear that theme song and hear Bob Cole screw up more often then not ;)
I noticed that Don Cherry was in fine form last night....with a new blazer to boot lol

I thought Coaches Corner was great .. lol, did you notice Don's voice started giving out a bit? the guy has so much to blurt out after a year off he can't keep up with himself LOL and of course just like before Ron only got a half dozen words in ;)

Leafs...do they have any hope of winning?
No.
My take on the subject is that the majority of Leaf fans aren't hockey fans, they are fans of the team and until they become hockey fans there will be no winning team in Toronto. They will be mediocre at best for a long time.

So is CBC going to air tomorrow's game vs Ottawa? It's going to be bullsh** if it they don't.

CBC was back doing the games before the announcement that they accepted the contract was made. Cherry was even wearing a new jacket :d

Leafs have no chance against Ottawa. Look for the 3rd loss in as many games.
Sundin's loss is HUGE.

Yes, but who's airing the game tonight? Please let it be CBC.
I love how leaf fans hate them and think they are terrible when they lose but once they win a game they are a great team again and everyone loves them.

See Law though, they are not true fans. They just jump on the bandwagon like what 90% of the people do anyways. I'm not a Leaf fan at all but if you are a fan, you stick through with them.
I've been a fan of the Senators since the late 90s when I really got into hockey. Even though the Sens lost key games, I still stuck with them. I know we will win the Cup. This year looks good for us again plus we will see if the new coach can get them over the Playoff slump.
Anyways, like you guys have said, true fans stick to the team through the worst of it all.
By the way, Ottawa 1 Toronto 0 with 5 minutes left in the first.

There is also a difference between being a fan, and being blind. I AM a huge Leafs fan.. end story. However, I was the first to point out that the new CBA was going to kill the Leafs this year, and it has. They were a team built to contend every year, through free agent spending. Can't do that now, and I was right.. they suck. Belfour is old and slow, and needs to retire. And they didn't have the talent to lose Mats or Jeff. They did, and they will continue to suck. I also said that the Leafs went from 1 of the top 5 teams in the league to one of the worst, months ago. I was right. I am not a bandwagon jumper, I am still a fan, I am simply not blind. Not this year folks.. as much as it pains me to say, it is between the Canucks and the Sens.. theirs to lose this year. Go Leafs Go!

I have to hand it to the Leafs though...it's been close. With nobody extraordinary on their team and the local bench warmer scoring goals, they gave Sens a run for their money.

Keep hearing how Ottawa will kill the Leafs.....The only thing they have won this year is 2 shootouts........No shootouts in the playoffs......Quinn played the kids a little more tonight....thats a good thing

Twice now that the shootouts between these two teams have resulted in an outcome. Imagine every game between the Sens and Leafs going into a shootout. That would be something else.
Senators blowing a third period lead...brings me back to the good old days not too long ago. I thought we had that one covered, oh well, time to rethink the strategy on that one.

i love hockey now,
-guys can protect the puck when they have it, it's true hockey.
-cycles,
-speed to the net,
I realized just how this new hockey makes baseball look so slow
-3 goals, and Clemens just finished pitching 1 pitch haha

lol......whe u look back u only look at the wins not how they got them. both teams had great chances, as the sens scored 3 goals in the second and the leafs in the third. still early in the season though anything can happen right? anyhow, to recap, thats 2 wins against the leafs, had it been the other way around and the leafs won, you would be singing a different tune :eri:

Not me. Starting to dislike the shootout. I did like it @ first...thought it was exciting....but now I dunno. Just seems unfair. Not because the Leafs lost. But I feel that both teams played as a team to achieve what they got. To put everything down to a shootout is not a team effort. Sudden death overtime should be deciding factor. I do not care if players whine about it is too long of a game @ that point......whaaaaa.....finish it then.
But to see teams try so hard fight so hard to come back and tie a game....to have it all lost in a one on one "team game" shoot out? Just seams really unfair. ESPECIALLY considering what if your goalie stood on his head the whole game? What if he had 40 shots taken at him as opposed to the 20 the other goalie may have had. There are so many variables that make the shootout unfair.

Agreed also ... supposed to be a team effort. Either leave it as a tie, like they used to, or let the best team-effort get that last "winning" goal in overtime.

I didn't like the idea of a shootout when I first heard about it months back, if they wanted to change overtime then why not make it 10 minutes instead of 5 to give more time =\

I'm not a true-blue Leafs fan, but I think the shootouts suck. It's a terrible way to "win" a game.
Americans need to learn that a tie is a suitable outcome for regular season hockey game, and that a 2 to 1 score is just as exciting and 6 to 5. This is the price we pay to get hockey back...

i didn't like it at first, but now kinda like it. they still get a point for the loss so they do get something out of it. and i like the fact there will be no more ties anymore. But i also would agree with a 10minute OT period of 4 on 4. You would see some great hockey from it!

You know what would be cool? Watching NHL on the internet...not the audio, but video. I would gladly pay per game. Are there any services out there like this?

Personally, I never liked shootouts for the same reasons others have stated. I don't find them exciting at all. Rather anti-climatic if you ask me.
I say sudden-death overtime but with 4 on 4 hockey. Now that would be far more exciting to watch!

I agree with ur statements, and I say that shootouts do take something away from the game but Ill say this.
Why is it in overtime with 1 minute left, i am wanting to see a shootout, I must be weird, I love to see the best players pull off moves or golies flat out rob a player, which yes i see in OT.
If I am gona shell out 100 bucks/ticket, and im a Uni student, u know something, a tie is the last thing I wana see.... send me away with Heatley sniping a corner or Sundin pulling a backhand deak on Hasek. Sry guys, regular season I like the shootout,
Ill meet ya half way
Make OT, in this format, 4 on 4 Sudden death for 10 min,
Then go Shootout
Playoffs Im all about Overtime until a team wins the game, but for the season, and excitement, I like the sudden death, with a shootout.
Heck maybe the NHL should have a democratic system. Ok OT is over, they go to the benches, we're gona decide between Sudden Death OT and Shootout, Home Team, call heads or tails, heads, Sudden death tails shootout
Pat Quinn calls heads,
Ref- The call is tails, tails it is, were going to a shootout
HEADS I SAY I CALLED HEADS!!!!! HAHAHAA
I would hate to see a team miss the playoffs by one point due to a shootout, so maybe the last 20 games, or something you go to a sudden death ot instead of a shootout, (who knows)

That game was extreme !!
I hope Tucker is going to be alright, Quinn said on the he ended up with a 10 or 12 stitch cut above the eye, I don't know what Boulton was thinking elbowing Lindross and Sutton pounding Tucker into the glass? (and I think it was one of them that tackled the linesman) It's obvious that there are going to be some suspensions. I must say that I am looking forward to Nov 19th at the Hanger for the next meeting

Why do they keep relying on Belfour? It's a bloody miracle the puck didn't go in. It was all Belfour in the third period. Not impressed with the defence.

Maybe they we're feeling a bit banged up last night seems how they played two nights in a row and that Atlanta game was a bit rough. What's important is that they got the win and now have a few days off.
