View Full Version : Trojan and Website Fonts
I hope someone can help me out. I was online and my loading speed slowed right down, and the fonts on different websites changed to being HUGE. I downloaded and ran AVG. It said two different trojans Downloader.Generic.DVF and Downloader.Generic.DTL. AVG says both were removed, but also say. Healable - NO. Fonts are still all messed up on MSN and Rogers sites. I am wondering if the trojans were actually removed or not. Scanned again and neither are found. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Ok, so you got infected first and only then did you download and run an anti-virus.
Now the infection description is Trojan downloader generic.
A trojan downloader typically will connect to a server to download additional malware.
A software firewall should have blocked it and warned you that crapware.exe is trying to connect to a server.
Because you were infected, it may be that the downloader program has been sucessful in downloading additional crap.
Your anti-virus has now detected a Trojan downloader.
It is unable to "heal" or "clean" it as the file is 100% malware.
There is, by definition, nothing to "heal".
It can only be deleted or quarrantined.
That part is taken care of. The downloader component is dead.
Problem is you have no idea what it downloaded.
Nor what effect that would have.
Typically a downloader will download spyware.
Programs that change your homepage, ads, etc,
But it could, in theory, be ANY set of instructions.
The anti-virus has sucessfully detected and removed the downloader.
However the changes made by additional downloaded components may not be detected.
They rarely are. Especially when the detection is "generic downloader"
The anti-virus does not know that the change to ,say fonts, is not legitimate.
To begin to restore your system, run an online scan at Housecall or Panda.
( Perhaps they have a better signature than "generic" )
Second, if it's only certain sites I would clear all cookies.
These cookies could contain preferences. Themes , fonts etc.
Clear cookies and reset preferences.
Also if these sites are password protected there may be a setting like user profile or prefrences.
These settings may also contain various view options.
Those preferences may be stored on their server.
You will have to login to change those.

go here and do an online scan
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
I have downloaded the Kaspersky Trial Anti-Virus hoping that it wil catch any future problems. The font issues have been taken care as far as I can see. I cleared all cookies and deleted temp files etc. With Kaspersky, will I still need to go to the housecall, trend micro site?
Thanks
By the way, the reason no anti-virus on my computer at that time is due to having to reformat because of a virus and other issues, then only having windows 98 os to install, now I am having trouble installing Rogers Anti-Virus, I think it has something to do with only having windows 98 not windows 98se or something more recent.

Did you say your running AVG? ...and Kaspersky Trial Anti-Virus and your trying to download Rogers Anti-Virus? This may be the conflict.
Do you have a firewall ?
