Hi folks, I have just started using XP Home and when I installed it it doesn't ask you to enter an administrator's password like XP Pro does. It just goes through and you enter a user name and it makes that user a memeber of the administrator's group. But when I use the log on window and try to log on using the user name"Administrator" it says "unable to log you on because of an account restriction" I can log on using the user name I entered while installing, and i also enabled the guest user opeion, but how do I log on as "Administrator"??
I am used to Win2K and XP Pro, but this has bme baffled! i would appreciate your help with this. I do know from the help menu that i can log on in safe mode as administrator, but how about normal mode????

Thanks

It's that way by design in Home Edition... You can only access admin in 'safe mode'

Thanks Dr. Dan, I looked at the infor in that link, and I understand the situation, but They are wrong when they say that you are prompted to enter a password for administrator when you install XP Home edition because that only happens when you install XP Pro,
Thanks for the Info!

For Windows XP Home Edition Only

Q: During Setup, I created accounts for my family and me. All of these accounts are computer administrator accounts. Why is everyone a computer administrator?

A: All user accounts are initially created with computer administrator access, which means they have complete control over a computer and can gain access to and modify all user accounts on a computer. If you're concerned about security, you can change certain accounts to limited accounts. To change the access level for one of your user accounts, click Start, click Control Panel, and then click User Accounts.

For more information about user accounts, click Start, click Help and Support, and type "user accounts" in the Search box.

Q: How can I add an Administrator password to make my computer more secure?

A: Another way to make your computer more secure is to assign a password to the Administrator account, which is blank by default. An Administrator account is a user account that has full permissions and control over a computer, can gain access to and modify all user accounts on a computer, and can only be accessed from safe mode.

To create a password for the Administrator account

1.

Restart your computer in safe mode:

•Click Start, click Turn Off Computer, and then click Restart.

•Once your system begins to restart, press the F8 key to bring up the options menu.

•Use the arrow keys to highlight the Safe Mode option, and then press ENTER.

2.

When the "Windows Welcome" screen appears, click Administrator to log on.

3.

Click Start, click Control Panel, double-click User Accounts, and then click Change an Account. Under Pick an account to change, click Administrator, and then click Create a password.

If you decide to create a password for the Administrator account, make sure that you write down the password and store it in a safe place.

To learn more about safe mode, click Start, click Help and Support, and type "safe mode" in the Search box.

IMO, it sounds like you need the Fisher-Price GUI installed.
