I have IE 9, and FF8, and today I can't play any videos or CD's on my PC. Have downloaded Flash 11 as recommended, but this does not help. Can somebody tell me why this is happening ?? Thanks !

You could download Firefox to see if that works , also in IE9 you can try the compatibility mode.
vlc media player seems to play everything & its free :) http://www.downloadster.org/vlc.php?option=z&catid=&kw=vlc+download&custr=VLC+download&lptype=3&mkwid=&aid=09&s=&cust=VLC+download_AD_www.google.ca_vlc+download&channel=&subid=DSTVLCA_aIE&roia=!j4A4vq1BAAKLOkMAAAltVQAAbPdCAABx7Q-A

ted I also have vlc media player, and one called HaiHaisoft that's supposed to play everything.
I'm really stumped on this one. Have checked to see if there is any nasty stuff on my PC with assorted scans, and nothing has turned up. If there is a setting somewhere I can't think what it could be. But I'll also keep looking if anybody else has this problem with google. Wish me luck, and thanks for the replies. !!:)

i had a similar problem with not being able to play cds and dvds. i installed a microsoft file and it fixed the problem. i can't guarantee that this will work since i don't know if you have the same problem that i had.
microsoft file (http://download.microsoft.com/download/2/C/B/2CB64817-A269-4116-818D-B85F3029EA89/MicrosoftFixit50027.msi)

I had this same problem on my win7 at work. I did some digging and came up with this (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us).
the fix it program in there worked perfectly. Now it works just fine.

Thanks Cidknee and spaminator for your information. However the problem now seems to lie with Firefox 8.01 as I can play everything else like CD's
and Videos in my players and including utube in IE9, but I still can't play utube Videos with FF.:(

ok, my bad. i thought you meant a disc. Thats why I suggested what I did. I would check for spyware, and then your extensions. It could be that firefox has a missing plugin.

That's OK I think I need all the help I can get with this one. Have come across several possible fixes like the latest flash player (which I have), adobe plug-ins (will look into this one),
settings on utube (fixed) etc., but it's still not working OK. Wish FF would not do this every time there is an upgrade....................perhaps I am missing a plug-in, but out of the thousands in FF which one??

if you google firefox plugin check, it should show you a place where it will check all plugins.

Cidknee I have done that and they all check out up to date. What I'm thinking is that I'm missing one, but don't know which one. I'm starting to feel jinxed. Have never had this kind of trouble that I couldn't fix before. Hairpulling time.................:llh:

I have wicked good news. A friend of mine had an earlier version of firefox, and sent it to me. I installed it and now everything works just fine. Guess I'm not jinxed after all......It will be very cold in a hot place before I install version 8.0.1 again.:d
Great -- glad you solved the problem and also that you warned us about 8.0.1 :)
