Playing with Linux Mint 12 and it looks quite good!
It is Gnome based with the latest Gnome 3. It also uses a taskbar at the bottom with the old familiar KDE style launch menu.
Mint has passed Ubuntu on Distrowatch to suggest that many more users are interested in using a different system than the latest Ubuntu with Unity.
If you want to look at Mint without installing it just download and burn the live CD image from here http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php
The DVD edition is install only and has all the basic codecs.
The CD edition is a live bootable CD with no codecs built in but it offers a nice way to preview and test Mint on your system.
