Prior to board crash, I remember that someone was talking/asking about Genealogy programs. Just got back from a family reunion and there is interest in making a "better" record of the family history. Now are there any recommendations about the different programs. What is a good choice? Ideally, would like something for both print and be able to export it online easily, as well as do updates, and do both the written/images, as well as drawing a family tree.

Thanks for the advice :), and "Googling" it as we speak.

The one that I have been using for 15 years is Brothers Keeper (http://www.bkwin.net/).

I've found it to be fully featured and easy to use.

Check in on some of the genealogy website message boards and ask what programs they use. One thing to check that the program has is the ability to export the family tree file in a format that is compatable with many other programs. This is a must if you want to share the file with others.

One I used for a while when I was doing some geneoalogy was GenPro.

Tried half a dozen programs and settled on Family Tree Maker 2005. Thanks for the suggestions. Only tried the demo version so didn't not get to try the online search capabilities for some, but like the interface of FTM the best.

FTM (version 7) is one of the ones that I tried even as I was running BK. And still believe that for shareware, BK beats it by a mile. Plus, you do not have to continually pay more money as the product is enhanced.

And, unless they have fixed it in later versions, the program was brutally slow when dealing with with trees containing 1000's of people.

Hmm, may have to take another look. Just a note to say if you have gotten a family tree in the 1000's good job! Do you have favorite sites for your research? Thanks again
